DirecTV Satellite vs Stream vs Dish?
So from what I understand Dish has true WiFi 4K but Directv is still in the stone age with no 4K DirecTv. In fact so antiquated that the ONLY way to get 4K is to have it wired by coaxial. Why is it still not providing 4K wireless? This is stupid today's technology and WiFi can handle 4K easily wireless.
So anyone have information on this as my renewal is coming up in April and I really got to figure out what I am going to to be using for TV. I also looked at DirecTV stream but can't find anything but that it does support 4K (but very few channels) and losing a lot of channels over Satellite but not a single chart showing what channels you are actually losing when it comes to Satellite vs Streaming. This makes no sense?
Really is DirecTv doing anything to upgrade to today's technology? Why so many channels missing in Stream when it's nearly the same exact price anymore? Save me $5/month to go Streaming? What??? Not much of a saving but lose a lot of channels but refuse to tell or show you what channels your actually losing to see if it is something you don't want to lose or not.

DTV does have a 4K wireless mini client the C71WK. DTV sat and DTV via the internet AKA DTV streaming are two separate services so of course they have different channel packages. There is no renewal for DTV sat service when the contract expires you are month to month.

Hey shannon02 why has none of the sales rep informed me of this?
I currently have Genie 2 HS17-500 and 4 C61W-400 receivers when I signed up back in Oct 2020.
Not a single sales rep told me about the wireless 4K receivers at all.

Don't think the C71WK was out in 2020 I think it was released in late 2022 or early 2023

Yeah it was not but I spoke with customer rep about options just this year. So will have to call back to talk to them about the wireless upgrade option.

For starters true 4K is still not the 'standard', so claiming "stone age" and "antiquated" is quite the exaggeration. Actual 4K TV content is still in the early days.
DirecTV has had true 4K channels as opposed to other providers which only upscale non-4K content.
DirecTV does have their Gemini (C71KW) which is 4K AND wireless. It also can be wired. And even in this futuristic age as you make it sound, wired is still more reliable than wireless. Doesn't matter if DirecTV, Dish or anyone else. Wireless has NOT replaced wired (because it cannot).
DirecTV and DIRECTV STREAM have different carriage agreements. Many networks and content owners have different requirements and licenses for being delivered by internet.
Why has none of the sales reps mentioned any of this? If you mean when you got service in 2020 which was 4 YEARS AGO, the Gemini did not exist at that time.
With thinking wired is stone age and antiquated and upset that when you started service nobody told you what would be launched years later it seems you have a very skewed view of time and the advancement of technology. Do not mistake advancements and early days of new tech for the actual current standard.

There is no 4K wireless upgrade, if you have a 2 yr good standing upgrade coming you can replace one C61K with the C71WK for free but it may require a new 2yr contract. I think the C71WK are $149 each without the free upgrade.

I'm a satellite only customer (a couple of H24's). I thought I would be able to stream 4K over the internet (Apple TV, Fire Stick etc.) based on what my Premier account said but we can't see the 4K channels in the Direct Stream guide.
I was told via a support rep today that I'd need to add a 4K receiver to be able to get 4K over the internet.
At a minimum, what receiver equipment would I need to add to make this happen?

HR54 Genie on non 4K tv (Can connect to a 4K tv, but will not provide the 4K feed to it).
C61K Mini Genie Client (wired only at this time) on 4K tv.
Remember Client has no tuner of its own, uses 1 from the Genie.
4K tv must support HDCP 2.2, HDMI 2.0, and 60 FPS
DirecTV Installation, 4K tv must be there
Package Select or above as of 12/15/2016 (used to be only Ultimate or Premier). So only the Family package will not get 4K service at all.
At this time there are only a couple channels in 4K (plus a few PPVs).
Even if you have multiple C61K or RVU clients, only one tv can be using a 4K channel at a time.
If those two H24s are all you have, then that upgrade would add both $10 DVR and $3 Whole Home DVR to your existing $10 HD. And the DVR replaces the Autotune feature.
But yes, 4K content is not authorized even by the secondary streaming perks unless you have had been installed for 4K. This is because DirecTV is first and foremost a satellite TV provider.

DTV sat and DTV via the internet AKA DTV streaming are separate services so their guide doesn't show DTV sat 4K channels. Not sure if DTV Sat streams their 4K channels to the app.

I don't believe the DIRECTV app (when used with DIRECTV SATELLITE credentials) shows 4K channels, although it may have 4K On Demand content (not entirely sure).

Thanks for all the responses!
When I first signed into DirecTV Stream last week on my account. The 4K channels DID show up, 104, 106 etc. on both the web, the mobile app on iOS/Android and in 4K TV's on Amazon Fire Stick 4K's. And I watched part of a basketball game on 104 in 4K. Then on Super Bowl Sunday those channels slowly disappeared, starting with 105. Now they don't show up at all.
I figure the billing system and the fact that I DO NOT have a 4K satellite receiver, finally caught up with the guide servers and so Direct Stream no longer presents those to me. Makes sense.
Now I have to figure out whether it's worth the extra $ to get a 4K satellite box. :)

DIRECTV STREAM is a separate service from DIRECTV SATELLITE. You are referring to the complementary streaming that comes with your DIRECTV SATELLITE service which is a secondary perk, if you will.
