Dispute with CBS

How long will this dispute with CBS last before I quit DirecTV?

It will last as long as your CBS affiliate wants it to as they are the ones that removed the feed because DTV will not pay what that CBS affiliate wants to renew the contract.  All TV providers have to renew their contracts when they expire so this will continue to happen regardless of who you move to.

There is no dispute with CBS. The dispute is with the owner of your local station, not CBS. My local CBS station is still on. Go ahead and quit Directv. This stuff happens to every TV provider. The only way to avoid it is with an over the air antenna.

Well only you know when you will quit DirecTV.

Anyway it is not a dispute with CBS itself. Your local channel is an affiliate of CBS. Simple situation is that a new carriage agreement had not been reached by the time the current one ended. So your local affiliate station decided to withhold the feed (as is their right) while they continue negotiating.

TV providers (and us customers) are tired of paying more and more for locals that are free over-the-air (OTA). Most people go to a pay TV provider for the national channels they can get otherwise, not their free locals.

For most people, I suggest using a regular OTA antenna to get all the free channels in range. That may even include other channels DirecTV couldn't provide you in the first place, such as sub-channels.

And be aware that quitting and going elsewhere does not solve the problem. All providers go through these negotiations. Local affiliates in the last few years are pulling their feed more often to make us customers angry to try and leverage us against TV providers to allow increasing rates. So this is just DirecTV's turn. with that local affiliate owner.

So how long until you pay the local affiliate of CBS all the increased cost they want that the rest of us customers don't want to pay?
