DVR recording series $2.99 per episode
Was recording Yellowstone series and got a popup saying if you wish to keep recording additional episodes requires additional $2.99 (assume per episode).
Is this charge added for any series or certain ones? Pretty disappointing fact.

If nobody watched it there is no charge, DTV has a popup that asks if you want to continue or something similar that comes up a few minutes into the program.

The channels are adding fees to watch their On Demand programs and they decide which ones, all DTV and all other TV providers do is collect it.

Okay, I think what actually happened is my uncle accidentally hit watch now on a link that incurs a charge. Is there any way to get a refund for an accidental rental?

If I am paying for Directv monthly, why I do I need to pay 2.99 for this episode? This is so greedy and so disappointing. What a scam!

It is the content provider that is charging for their On Demand content. DTV is only collecting it.

@chenderson177
Your subscription to DirecTV includes access to satellite TV. With that you also have access to Pay-per-view (PPV), essentially the digital version of a rental.
The channel/content owners are capitalizing on binge watchers. In addition to the free content of their On Demand library, those channels are adding in more content that is PPV.
Don't want to pay for it, then you don't order that specific content. Just watch the satellite channels or the free On Demand content already covered by your subscription.
