Enable side by side output?

Can direct TV enable side by side output for those of us that have a 3D TV (which is not on the approved list) that supports side by side?

We are all users here. We can't answer policy questions. That's a question more appropriate to a direct e-mail. See the ?Help button above to contact them.

This just figures. The Samsung DLPs don't have native side by side support, but the D* receiver thinks they are 3D capable and allow them to get the signal. But my Mitsubishi 73738 which does have native side by side supports comes up as being not 3D capable. What a bunch of junk.

I talked to DTV tonight, I asked them to default to side by side if the TV is not recognized. After a warning of course. I think its crazy to try to certify every monitor. What happens when new monitors come out, are they going to add new EDIDs every week?

The quippy short answers are not very indicative of their "Customer Service" advantage over Dish, are they? They should learn from all that most of their viewers are pretty techno savvy and expect a few more adjectives with their replies.

Nothing "quippy" about them.  None of us here work for DirecTV.  We're customers like you.  We don't control their design decisions or priorities.  That's why we recommend providing that sort of feedback directly via their email link.

I have a solution for this, will write it up once I confirm... oh and I need DTV to send me an HR-21

Directv's order system is function based rather than equipment based and they haven't set up the 3D function properly yet. The CSR doesn't really have the ability to specify an HR-21. I understand that sounds ridiculous but it's the way things are right now. What can work is to get a 3D capable DVR from an agent like Solidsignal.com and have DirecTV credit you an agreed upon amount and send you a pre-paid return box for your old DVR. Run that by a CSR and ask to talk to a supervisor if he/she doesn't know how.

OK I will try credit idea. I have at least 3 hours logged on calls with DTV so far.

The 2 CSRs that placed orders for me claimed they knew how to specify equipment.

Did DirecTV enable "Side by Side" ?

A pain now for the Panosonic users.  I have been using DirecTV's 3D's channel 106 all throughout the month so I could watch some World Cups games in 3D. Also just got on board with watching channel 103 (24hr 3D channel).

I am using the Panasonic TC-P65VT25 65-inch and about 2 nights ago I noticed that DirecTV 3D channels are now showing as a side by side image instead of the blurry normal 3D image. This is both for channels 103 and 106.

My TV 3D settings were on "Automatic" which would detect the DirecTV signal with no problem. All of a sudden I have to go an extra step and change my 3D input (from "Automatic" to "Side by Side" when I go to channel 103 or 106. Also when going from 3D back to 2D I have to switch my settings again to go back to "Automatic".

Why all the extra steps for the Panosonic users (the deal is between Panosonic and DirecTV) especially when it was working perfectly since inception about a month back.
