Error Code 775 during Icy Memphis Weather
Error Code 775 during Icy Memphis Weather
Good evening DirectTV community,
Our television has been out for two days, it started at 5 am Tuesday morning. Freezing rain has hit the Memphis area and we got light snow last evening. Usually when we have weather like this, there may be a little disruption (tv programming going in and out for an hour) but it does not last almost two days(not even a day). I believe our satellite dish is frozen and not communicating with our receiver(We took a look at it today and it has ice on it, but no huge problems like a poor dead bird). Is there anything we can do to get programming restored? Is there anywhere we can go to get updates on the issue? Must we wait until the satellite is free of ice before we see the television again? I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue, this is a first . We have experienced multiple ice storms over the years and never had this occur. We have had inches of snow before and the tv still worked. Our Wifi is working so we can access our DVR list, but cannot watch live television at all. This time I am stumped so I am reaching out for some encouraging words/news. Thanks in advance for any help. --SP

Yep. Us in NJ here got a coating last night into early today so I was surprised to wake up and see snow since we haven’t gotten any yet.
I always dread error 775 as error code 771 in itself means the dish is misaligned or simply is connected properly but cannot receive a satellite signal.
Error 775 means the box can’t access the LNB at all. Hopefully in your case the service does indeed come back otherwise verify the power inserter has a solid green light and that the outside wiring looks OK (HR54 and HS17 boxes don’t require a PI).

Remove the ice or wait for it to melt on its own.
No. There is no satellite issue. Your issue is only you because of the ice.
Yes, pretty much. Your dish might also be out of alignment which would cause it to lose signal much sooner when there are weather issues.

You can try a supper soaker filled with warm water to melt the ice if you can't reach it with a broom, there are dish heaters that you can buy and install. The problem is the ice/snow changes the focal point to the LNB on the dish arm

Thanks sandblaster, I appreciate it ! The alignment may be something to consider especially if we do not get service by the weekend. After tonight, the melting should begin... ahh the waiting game.

775 error generally is not caused by dish misalignment. It's more likely a loose, corroded or wet coax cable connection between the dish and your house. That error means that the dish LNB is not getting power.

Yep. It could definitely be linked to the snow and precipitation affecting the outside splitters, coaxial cables, or even causing the LNB itself to fail (unlikely).

@detuch254 thank you for responding. Glad you mentioned the two error codes and other information. 1 tv says 771 and the others say 775, there's a couple of issues there. Stay warm!
