Fox News pixilation (only Fox News)
I like to watch the popular show "The Five" that airs at 5pm. But lately the show has been inundated with constant interruptions of screen pixilation. This happens everyday and makes it almost impossible to watch. This issue ONLY happens on Fox News. I've checked other channels when it's happening and there are no issues. I have satellite service. There are no storms in the area. I fail to see that this could be an equipment problem when it ONLY occurs on Fox News. Especially at 5pm. I have Fox News on right now at 1:30 pm EST and am still seeing periodic pixilation. I have spoken with Directv customer service. They had me reset my Genie and check resolution. It did not fix the problem. Can someone please address this ? I have s

I would check your signal strength to make sure your dish isn't slightly out of alinement. This can happen sometimes! I would make sure that your numbers are in the high 90's because if you have any that are a little low that could be causing your pixelation issue.

I am not saying that it is an equipment error! It could be a signal issue which would mean there would be nothing wrong with the equipment. So it does not hurt to check all your bases. Just because you do not have a storm in your area does not mean that your dish could not be slightly out of alignment. I had this happen to me and it only affected a few channels with the pixelation I was the one that caught it Directv Customer Service had me reset receivers, and change settings on my tv, and receivers, and nothing helped it wasn't until I checked my signal strength myself that I found the issue was because my dish had come loose and was causing my signal strength to drop but not lose it all the way and because of not losing signal strength all the way it was only causing the viewing problem on certain channels! That is why I was suggesting you check your signal strength.

It is the 99 and 103 sats that carry the HD channels so what are their readings?

My Genie model is HS17-500. I assume cutting the power, waiting, then turning it back on is the same thing as hitting the red button. I've done that.
I have the same issue on all TV's / remote receivers.
Shannon02, I don't know how to check the 99 and 103 sats. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

By where it says Satellite 101 there is a ‘+’ which will send you to satellite 99 (ca). Then, press the ‘+’ to get to 99 (cb), 103 (ca), and 103 (cb)

You need to move the cursor to the + next to the sat 101 then cycle through the 99/103 sats

Well you do have a low signal on
25-32 you do have a low signal the 74 is low and could be causing the pixelation because all signals should be at least in the 90's. You should also check tuner 2 to see if there are any low signals there!

Not exactly the same. When you unplug from power (usually at least a minute), this clears active/residual memory. It has to reacquire some information from the satellite, such as the guide data that was dumped.
This is a similar concept for a Gateway (modem/router), a computer, or even cell phones (that have a removable battery). Pressing reset button (or using a menu option to reset it) and removing power are two different levels (regular reset vs power cycle).
To your original issue, a single channel affected is most likely at the channel's end or the broadcast center. A few channels and alignment could be an issue, especially if that time of day affects anything in the area that might cause slight interference. Even if the problem is at the source, I would still consider a realignment to tighten up, so you don't get to a point of losing channels for another reason. There are videos on YouTube if you want to do it yourself instaed of paying DirecTV for a service call.

Hit the red button today. Still only Fox News pixilating.
detuch254 and Juniper you both recommend a realignment. Can you share what specifically you're looking at to determine this ? Is it because many of the numbers are below 90 ?
We haven't talked about Asimuth and elevation. Should those number be consistent in a region. For example I'm in upstate New York hudson valley area. Would my numbers based on my region also indicate an alignment is off ? My numbers are asimuth 0 and elevation -19.
So "channel specific issue" and "channel's end or the broadcast center issue". We should assume that it's not Fox News because I can watch via internet without issue and Verizon Fios also has no issue and Spectrum has no issue. Seems to be a satellite specific issue. I need to see if others in the area with Directv are having a problem. I would assume Directv would know of the issue if it was happening to many folks.
Any other recommendations besides realignment ? Thanks

If you want to try tweaking your dish's alignment, you'll find several good YouTube videos, including this one .....
