How do I get rid of the ads while on pause? (permanently please)
I expect fewer commercials when paying over $150 a month for a pretty basic package and I don't think much of AT&T trying to add to their revenue streams by pushing even more ads at me while on pause.
We watch Jeopardy and use pause to read the clues and try to come up with the answers ourselves. Now that AT&T wants to sell us toilet paper while on pause instead of just pausing the program, we have to 'press any button' to go back to pause and the program we paid to watch.
I called this in to Support and was told to go to search and type CLEARBOX (all caps). That did stop the ads unless we left it paused for more than five minutes. Then the ads came back again. CLEARBOX kept all of our recordings but it did reboot the box and that takes awhile. Doing this as a 'fix' is stupid and time consuming. Just get rid of the ads on pause AT&T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nobody is watching them and every DirecTV user I know is pi$$ed.
I really need to look at dumping AT&T. . . . . . . .

AFAIK if you disconnect the internet from the DTV receiver the ads will disappear as well as On Demand, start from the beginning and paying for PPV with the remote.
Don't know why you would expect fewer ads with any provider as you are getting more channels with ads and the only channels without them are the premium channels.

Getting pay TV doesn't mean avoiding commercials. If there were no commercials, then the bill would be even higher as networks make up loss revenue from the TV provider only.
Any adds while on pause would be downloaded from the box being internet connected. So resetting network defaults, and unplugging Ethernet cord to router if wired, to disconnect from internet would be the option.
Sorry but commercials are the way of life for TV services. But if the TV is paused one would assume you are not watching TV at that moment anyway so shouldn't matter.

What is wrong with you people? You’re paying for a service that didn’t come with the expectation that when you hit pause on anything you would get advertisements… I understand if there is a channel that I am specifically watching and it has commercials, it is up to me to watch that channel. This is for a service that I’m actually paying for. What is wrong with you people? If you are so traumatized by advertisements that you resort to insulting people, then disconnect your box from the internet. Then the pause screen adds will go away.
There is no expectation that there wouldn't be an advertisement on the pause screen, that is just your own assumption. Internet connected world works differently then the old antenna or satellite only days. And it would be expected that any business would try to capitalize on options to encourage additional revenue.
After jumping in an 8 month old thread to throw a tantrum, hopefully you feel better. Remember when the TV is paused you can do something else. Otherwise if you are watching TV it will not be paused.

I wouldn’t use the word traumatize so much is finally fed up. This thread is eight months old and yet apparently they are still people (Edited per community guidelines) off about it. Disconnect my box because [Edited per community guidelines] That’s all right, I’ll continue to complain

Constructive. That's some pretty generic spam you posted. Usually spam contains a link to some website someone is trying to promote; not just a post that says, "spam".

Cancel DirecTv. If a company doesn't care about you and only uses you to drive more ad revenue then you aren't the customer, you are product. The advertisers are their customers and you are only sentient eye-cattle.
I had posted this earlier and an AT&T employee wrongly marked it as spam and deleted it.
Yep. That's how much they care about you, the supposed "customer". Fact is, if you aren't paying them money AND watching their ads, then you are of no value to them.

If you want to cancel DirecTV, then you will need to call them. This is simply a public forum populated mostly by other customers, but also the occasional employee on their personal time.
Companies maximize their revenue where they can, including advertisements. I am astounded by people who watch their pause screen so much that they are affected by those advertisements. I use the pause screen when I need to step away from the TV for something, so it doesn't bother me.

Juniper:
I don't care what you you "think" bothers you. Clearly this is unacceptable to many people. The fact that DirecTv doesn't care is what "astounds" me.
"If you want to cancel DirecTV, then you will need to call them. "
I already have. What part of my post made you think I was asking DirecTv to cancel my account? I was ENCOURAGING others to cancel their accounts.
Constructive and Shannon02:
It wasn't "spam", and it wasn't a "random" website. It was a link to an episode of Black Mirror, showing a dystopian future where people are not allowed to even close their eyes during television ads. If you did, then the ads would pause until you opened your eyes again.
It very clearly illustrated where DirecTv is headed and was germane to the discussion. If you had any sense then you'd have seen that and known it wasn't "spam".
Not every link posted to your forum is "spam". If you don't want ANY links posted, that's relatively easy to accomplish. Maybe the next time you see a link on a message that CLEARLY isn't spam, then maybe you could look to see if it's relevant to the discussion before knee-jerking it as "spam". The problem is, that would require you to think a little.

Juniper is a shill. I don't rightly care what he"feels" is acceptable. I know what I do and don't like and I don't like being taken advantage of. We HAVE considered cancelling the account.
So that we're crystal clear, just because AT&T wants to take advantage of their customers it doesn't make it right. Just because many of us don't find it acceptable doesn't mean you can just shout out "cancel your account." You're a great spokesperson for AT&T. Keep it up.
