Hi @gempster,

We're happy to help!

Try resetting your receiver by unplugging it, waiting about 10 seconds, then plugging it back in.

You can also go to the Audio/Video section Under Info and choose the Resolution and Format option to choose the right picture settings for your TV.

Let us know if you still need assistance.

We understand that you're having a picture problem. Don't worry, we can help with that.

From your DirecTV remote hit the menu button
next go to settings hit the select button
then your going to setup then hit select button
then to display and hit select
go to native and turn native mode off
Then your going to go to screen format then select stretch.

Let us know if it works for you.

How is the Genie connected to your HDTV?

What movies?

What channel(s)?

Some channels broadcast movies that were filmed in a wider format that 16:9, so perhaps what you're seeing is normal.

Hi There @gempster,

Looks like we need to troubleshoot some more with the Genie 2 and the TV.

Normally when it comes to full screen it depends on the aspect ratio of TV.  We do have a forums post that might help. Thank you to @DTV_Assist25 for the troubleshooting steps.

                          1. Make sure you are using a cable capable of giving you an HD resolution such as: HDMI or Component. (If unsure, skip this step)

                          2. Make sure you are getting HD channels. Ex: go to ch. 202. beside the channel number it will say either "CNN" or "CNNHD"

                          3. If it is an HD channel, make sure the resolution is set to the highest resolution your tv can support. It should either be 720p or 1080i. you can check this from the front panel of your ird. It's the tiny blue light on the far right

                         4. Now you will check to make sure you can get the best picture.

Press Menu

Settings & Help

Settings

Display

Video

Screen format: crop (this will only affect SD versions of channels)

TV Ratio: Wide Screen: 16:9

Try these things and let us know.
