You can't watch programs from the HR44 outside of your home network but if the bugs are fixed you will be able to download programs to a mobile device to watch for 30 days at this time. You can use the website to schedule recordings.
Out of home streaming (accessing DVR remotely) was dropped a few years ago. That is the same for all DirecTV DVRs, not just your 2nd generation Genie (HR44).
Would be nice if the new co-owner looks at bringing it back, but nothing has been said as of yet.
