Call DirecTV and ask about the "Travelers Package". Not sure if they still offer that.

Hey there! We are glad you enjoy our service in different places. For DIRECTV Satellite you will only have available the channels of the address we have on file, for example, if we have an address from the west you will only see channels from the west. For DIRECTV STREAM you can change the local channels by updating the address on the app. Check out this link it will guide you on how to do it for DIRECTV STREAM https://www.directv.com/support/stream/article/KM1228303

@d1940u

If your home currently gets Los Angeles locals or New York locals (KCBS, WCBS, etc) then these locals are available nationwide for both markets.

In other words, Los Angeles locals and New York locals are the two markets that are NOT spotbeamed like other markets. Rather, they can be received nationwide.

Like I suggested, contact DirecTV and ask about the Travelers Package. That's the only way to get either the East or West Coast local stations when traveling. But I'm not sure they even offer that package anymore. Let us know what you find out.

The people at the AT&T stores will not have a clue. DirecTV is no longer part of AT&T. The only way to answer your question is to call DirecTV. And if they no longer offer the Travelers Package (see the link I posted previously), then you're out of luck.

If you travel and can get decent internet service, you might consider switching to DirecTV Stream service. Then you'll get local stations.

The FCC allowed the Stellar act to expire that allow TV providers access to the DNS channels (the so called East/West coast feeds).

DTV has never had walk in service you either called or went to their website to order service or repairs.

litzdog911, Are you saying that Direct TV has no walk in offices? All sales in done from phone. If this is true I can't wait till the whole country is covered with 5G service. Dropping Direct will be a great pleasure. At one time they where tops in customer service.

1. Yes, that's what I'm saying. DirecTV has no walk-in offices.

2. You'll be waiting a long time for the whole country to be covered with 5G service.

3. It's nice to have other options besides DirecTV. Good luck with whatever you decide.

@d1940u

The Stelar Act expired which means DirecTV in most cases is no longer allowed to provide DNS (East/West Coast feeds) channels. This was something heavily lobied by local networks and they won. The "Travelers" package if still available is the option through DirecTV. Otherwise a regular antenna for what is in range, or any internet connection, while traveling are your alternatives.

DirecTV has never had their own walk-in offices. Over the phone and website is how they have been setup. Even when AT&T acquired them and were the only owner, the AT&T stores still were not employeed on the DirecTV side. That means an AT&T store still functioned like a 3rd party retailer where they could only order new service, and usually were not very knoweledgable about it.

As for the whole country being covered in 5G, that will probably not hapen in our lifetime. There is still such a thing as rural America. Some of us will not have very good internet or high speed cell phone data available, or possibly not at all. Companies are more invested in where there are dense populations to get the most bang for their buck. At this era, especially with the huge switch to work/school, etc. from home since the pandemic, our country needs to focus more on reach of coverage, minimum bandwidth, and the consistency and stability of it (including the hand-off between ISPs). That doesn't mean stopping invovation to keep improving, but maxing out the top speed for the "elite" needs to take a back-seat.

Yes knowledgable agents have decreased. First AT&T acquiring them and throwng their agents in the deep end seemingly with little to no training (expecting them to just look up policy as they went is how it appeard to me), then short staffing from pandemic (more outsourcing and then when people started to go back to jobs the new agents possibly with quick get them on the phone training), and now the new co-owner taking over. They have work ahead of them to bring back up their reputation on the customer support side.

As a note so you don't fall for many of the scams out there, it is DirecTV, not Direct TV.

When we travel we do not goto big cities so the only locals we could get is from either east or west coast feed. Years ago our package gave us both.

If no one on forum know I will go to an ATT office. I have not had good luck talking to any support people on phone.
