You are not paying specifically for FOX. Packages include access to locals in general. There is no guarantee of any specific local always being there. As long as you get 1 local channel, then you are getting what you are paying for. If you call DirecTV they might provide a credit as a courtesy, but are not required to do so as the Terms of Service have the clause that channels can change at any time (just like any other TV provider).
You are correct on both counts. They will give you a credit if you complain and ask when your contract is up! It is interesting, the person I talked to said we were turned on in our area; however when I went to their web site for this problem, it indicated my ZIP code was still not receiving FOX. I did as she instructed and powered the system off and then back on and still did not receive FOX. I have not called them back. Maybe I can get a bigger credit?
