@Juniper It is legitimate. There is no offer to accept, it’s simply being added to the account at no charge. I got it too, I got it last year also. There is no catch.
The email was most likely legit. If you change one thing or add, delete your 2 years start over. I don’t want another two years if I want to bail. Five years is a long time to be paying the amount I do every month. Football’s overrated anyhow except for the KC Chiefs!

That is never how it has worked. Only certain things affect the agreement.
Upgrades of equipment (adding another one counts), just like your initial equipment when you started, come with a 24 month agreement.
Movers order comes with a 12 month agreement. If with upgrade of equipment then naturally it would be the 24 months instead.
Years ago there was an over the phone offer for free NFL Sunday Ticket for 1 season which came with a 12 month agreement. Some 12 or 24 month discounts at that time may have come with a service agreement for the same length as the discount.
Any of those above option include sending you an order confirmation so you can verify.
Changing package or or other optional services has no affect on the service agreement whatsoever. Only options mentioned above have come with a service agreement.
I am aware of the legitimate freebie offered. Just my original response was to be sure that is all it was and not another of the scams out there pretending to be DirecTV. So many of them try to piggy back off a real option to hide their scam.
Still stand by my later post that corrects the OP's ludicrous claim.

So if you don't trust them, then why are you here?
Was this an offer from DirecTV itself (possibly an intro offer), or did you get some other contact that may be a scam artist pretending to be DirecTV?
