DTV is shutting down the MPEG2 SD channels so to continue using DTV you will have to call DTV for their free SD swap offer to replace the dish if needed and get MPEG4 receivers.

What is the model of your SD receiver and other receivers? You should be able to simply do a free swap of your SD receiver for a Genie mini client (if you have a client) or a standalone HD receiver like the H24 or H25, which does not require the Genie to work. I would personally recommend you to swap the SD box for an H24 or H25 as these boxes are standalone (don’t require the presence of the genie receiver) and also don’t take a tuner away from the Genie receiver.

resolved thanks to DirecTV help:  Menu, settings & help, settings, display, preferences, Guide HD Channels,  select "Hide HD Channels"  voila!

The guide in Southern CA still shows the SD version so you are probably in an area that has been shut down.

Don't know how that would fix it, the SD receivers don't receive or have HD channels.

It's just a matter of time until they shut down those SD channels. Why not give DirecTV a call and take advantage of the free equipment swap?

DirecTV is shutting down their MPEG-2/SD-only feeds. So if you only have an SD receiver, then you will have to replace it or go without service in the forseeable future.

However, you say you updated the Guide to "Hide HD Channels". An SD receiver would not have that option. So you either have a normal HD receiver, or possibly the special R22 which is MEPG-4/HD capable in the right setup (think of it like an HDDVR in hiding).

What is the exact model number of any box you have? That will clear up the conflicting info.
