Just switched...was it a mistake?
I have a Netflix account and an Amazon Fire stick. Why can’t I, or how can I, access these now that I have Direct TV.....Dish had a channel dedicated for Netflix which made it easy to go to. Hope I didn’t just make a big mistake!

Do you have a newer smart TV as most have the netflix app preinstalled or download it from the TV store, if not then the firestick should have it or able to download it. Then you have to change the TVs HDMI input to the firestick and back to DTV.

DirecTV has nothing to do with Netflix as they are competitors. Dish had an agreement with Netflix to supplement their programming. There is no way to access other TV providers through DirecTV itself.
You will need to change the input of your TV set to the one that your Fire Stick is plugged into. If you have a "smart" TV set which is connected to your home internet, you can see about downloading the Netflix app onto it. This still will not go through your DirecTV equipment.
Though it would have been a good idea to ask about this before getting DirecTV, I would not consider it a big mistake as that shouldn't be a primary reason to get a TV provider (the extra convivence of accessing competing TV providers).

I do have a Smart TV and was finally able to access Netflix thru the Firestick..my problem now is getting back to 'live TV'..I just kept pushing buttons on the DTV remote and somehow got back to DTV. Was very frustrating..
Thank you for your input

you need to learn how to change the input on your tv
sometimes the directv remote will do it with the enter button
other times you need the tv remote to do it

If you have the RC7X series, the new style Genie or "peanut" remote, then you hold down the ENTER button (says INPUT right next to it). This will allow you to then cycle through your inputs, or possibly pull up the input selection screen of your TV.
If the older RC6X series, then it has a dedicated TV Input button in the upper left which needs to be programmed after you have programmed the remote for the TV set (never understood why you had to activate the button separately).
Alternatively you press the input button on your TV's remote or the TV set itself (some brands call it "source").
