King 5 / Kong tv
Who else is upset that DirecTV may be losing the local NBC affiliate (KING/KONG)? If this happens I am totally over using DirecTV as my service for television. I was willing to deal with their arbitrary rate increases, but not if they are going to end their relationship with my local NBC affiliate.

It is your local station that will remove their feed if DTV or any other TV provider doesn't pay them what they want to renew the contract which will raise what DTV has to charge you so it is not arbitrary.

Um.... isn't NBC along with other Tegna stations free OTA( over the air)? I can just tune to our local NBC affiliate using good old digital antenna and selecting one of many digital HD stations. I do this often when our Directv craps out for hours to days at a time.
If its free to the public, other than having basic equipment most people own, how much are they asking pay tv providers to air their content? I know there is a separate line item charge for local channels but its considered included in the packages. There is also a separate line item charge for " administrative fee". Isn't that included in the monthly charge to customers as part of the price to do business? I'm sure we will see an " administrative bathroom fee" to cover toilet paper soon 🤔.
I see Directv prices are going up again in Jan 2021, $5/month for select and entertainment packages. Wish we could just make this simple and fair. Internet TV is starting to look more and more reasonable. Just pay for what you use. No more QVC selling overpriced junk or "How to fix your crepey skin" programs on 13 different channels. Or 64 Spanish channels. I dont read or speak Spanish. Not relatable to me. If you want those channels then by all means pay to use/enjoy those channels but why do I need to pay for them when I dont want nor need them. We get charged for all these channels the majority of subscribers don't use but its a major upset to watch channels offered for free to the public OTA. I don't get it. Ohh well.

Just time for negotiations between TV provider and channel owner. Happens all the time. Unfortunately local affiliates within the last few years are demanding more and more rate increases and threating to pull their feed (so holding us customers hostage). That is the local's right to do so.
So the local affiliate is just using the same old "scare tactic". Simply put if an agreement is not reached by the deadline then the local affiliate chooses to either keep the feed on while negotiating in good faith or to pull it until an agreement is reached.
Personally since I didn't go to pay TV for my free locals, I would rather use an over-the-air (OTA) antenna if needed so that my bill doesn't go up that much more.
