KXTV 10 ABC - Sacramento Local HD Problems

Anybody have any issues with the Nascar broadcast tonight 8/27 or during any other ABC national broadcast primetime shows during the past months?  Specifically audio and video dropouts, pixelation, studdering picture, and AV sync problems?  This seems to be a regular occurrence

Anybody outside of Sacramento area?

We are currently watching the Music Billboard program and it is sad to say that we missed a majority of the thank you speeches as well as performances.  I have my DVR set to record many shows on ABC and it is frustrating to see the pixels, hear the audio and at least have half of the shows/programs are not watchable.  Please somebody do something or we will just move to Comcast.  I am sure Xfinity can take care of the issues.

Same experience tonight with billboards. Show started out ok then spiraled into the same audio and picture issues that have been going on for months. I have emailed both news10 and directv again. Has to be a way to fix this.

Local CBS , in Texas City, TX , has problems every night / evening when the Wheel of Fortune is on. It happens basically at 20 minutes into the program. It does not matter if it is live or recorded, it is the same. The picture pixelates, Vanna is smeared across the screen as she is lighting up the letters and the sound keeps working as it should work.

I can not recall any other channels doing that.

Last night my wife and I watched recorded/DVR shows from ABC, from our list of shows, and still have not had any of the issues that any of the poster have experienced. I can see that these posters are having the same issues, but why would only a few, would have these issues, and the majority are not. Now, I'm wondering if these customers, have the same setup, Dishes/Same type of DVRs, how wiring is configured, etc... I ask because. if this is only an issue with a few, and not the majority, then common sense, would say that something may not be configured correctly, or the hardware has a bug that no one has found, but still maybe causing this issue.

Sacramento HD. DVR in use or watching directly. I believe it is not all locals. PBS Channel 6 is one with the problem for sure, and this problem is taking me from "OK whoever is responsible it will get fixed" to "this is getting ridiculous". The last Masterpiece Sherlock Holmes interruptions finally made me yell out a beeping bleep.

To add to it, I keep closed captioning on just in case the actor/actress mumbles, to able to go back and look at the text ...but often the closed captioning is gibberish - I mean real gibberish to where the supposed words aren't even close to any real word, as if a random alphabet generator was at work.

So today it is May 25th and still  this problem is unpredictable ...will a local show only have a couple of minor glitches or will it be a xxxxxxx cursing affair?

Thankfully most of the regular over-the-air network's series that I watch have finished for the season.

radar55, ok, I just figured this out. It MUST be the prison, on your side of town. LOL, sorry, I'm in one of those funny moods and since I saw that you and a couple of others, had the 95687 zip, I just had to make a joke. Being in the 95688 (Brown's Vally area), it seemed appropriate, lol. Sorry, but I had too!

I continue to have major issues with audio dropout and pixelation on KXTV ch 10 on DirecTV. Periodic black screen for 30 seconds or more. NBA playoffs are unwatchable.  I have to wait for ABC.com to release the latest eposodes of my favorite shows to watch them on the internet because they are unwatchable on DirecTV.  Other networks in Sacramento area have no problems.  Quote: Originally Posted by kaloalex

The current problem with KXTV's signal through DirecTV is not related to any issue dealt with in the past.  For nearly 4 weeks now, our MPEG-2 OTA signal has been solid throughout our coverage area, but DirecTV's relay of same has been faulty.  No other satellite or cable providers have experienced similar issues with the KXTV OTA signal in this time frame.

KXTV broadcasts HD and SD signals using a Harris Flexicoder.  The Harris Flexicoder is an MPEG-2 only encoder.  KXTV does not at this time have any plans to broadcast using the MPEG-4 protocol.

DIrecTV captures the KXTV signal via antenna reception.  There is no dedicated media or pipeline from our facility to the Sacramento DirecTV facility.  Using a VHF antenna, the Sacramento head-end of DirecTV receives the KXTV signal off-air and, using captive distribution equipment, delvers the revealed channels to their own uplink facility.

We have verified our signal is getting to the vicinity of DirecTV's head-end without issue.  We continue to monitor a co-located return path for quality issues--of which we have seen none.  We receive many dozens of justifiably angry emails and calls every day from DirecTV customers desiring resolution.

Frankly, this issue is, and always has been, out of our hands.  Our corporate superiors are investigating both the circumstances of this issue and determining our path forward with regard to our product as distributed by DirecTV.

While we have no wish to point fingers or assign blame, our output has not changed in recent months and we have had no equipment failures in the RF path.

Thank you for your time and feedback,

It's just needs to fixed. With all my signal strengths in the 80s and 90s I still think this is not a problem on my end. Hopefully tomorrow during the indy 500 I have very few issues. If I do have problems, I hope directv and kxtv can fix problems on the fly.

So if I follow this thread correctly Channel 10 is blaming DIRECTV and DIRECTV is blaming channel 10 and nothing is being done by either side. Does that sum it up? We have HD and have been having this issue for awhile and only on channel 10. Getting sick and tired of it.  I sent an email to channel 10 earlier this week from their website but they haven't responded and I am doubting they will.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get someone to act? While they blame each other I don't see any progress being made.

I am assuming it is Channel 10 but DIRECTV doesn't seem to be putting any pressure (or has absolutely no leverage) on them to get to the bottom of it.

Okay I missed post 29 so it does seem KXTV admits the problem. However, if that is from early April and its now June they don't seem to have a clue on the problem. Any more updates??

No more updates.  Clearly both KXTV and DirecTV are aware of the problem, but it looks to be in KXTV's hands to fix it.  Keep calling them to keep up the pressure.  It's rare for these sorts of issues to drag on this long.

So, now, this thread has been going on for quit some time, and maybe it's just us over here in Browns Valley, part of Vacaville, but still no issues what so ever with any local channels, including Channel 10. Not a drop, or a glitch, nothing. I'm retired and am home just about always, and watch these locals, all the time, and no such issues.
