Local channels?

Why am I unable to receive my local channels at my weekend cottage after having been able to for years?

If you have an 18" round SD dish then DTV has shut down the MPEG2 channels so you have to update the dish and receivers to HD or all your locals are having a dispute and removed their feeds to DTV.

Many cottages, RVs, detached workshop/garages are on older setups that are no longer compatible. But need more details to be sure what is affecting you.

What receiving dish do you have?

What is the model of boxes?

What happens when you try to watch locals?

Is this cottage within the same spot beam of your home (so accessing same list of locals) or are you one who is accustomed to calling to update the address every time you go to get locals for that area?

Not sure what dish but receiver has been updated.

My home viewing area is in the Chicago market area. Cottage is in different location. Never been a problem in past. I’d like to be able to view channels in my ‘home’ area!

Ok so sounds like cottage is in the same spot-beam as your home. What is the actual model of the "updated" receiver? It may be fine, but best to be sure.

Most likely the cottage is on the old round receiving dish and the cabling is a pre-SWM setup. If so then this would be the problem. DirecTV started shutting down the old MPEG-2 (SD only) feeds beginning April 2019. And newer boxes (anything Genie or the H25) are SWM only and cannot use the older Multiswitch setup at all. So if this is the situation, then it is finally time to update the cottage setup to one that is not outdated.

DirecTV will only install at the service address, and will not drop ship it. You will need to go through a 3rd party (such as Solidsignal) to get the needed equipment and either you or someone you contract installs it.
