movie ads interrupt program
Recently we have noticed that if we are not changing channels or otherwise interacting with the tv, the audio and video of the program we are watching will be replaced by a very annoying movie ad. I leave the TV on for audio/video while we are away and do NOT want it turned off and replaced by an annoying movie ad.
How do I turn this "feature" off permanently???

Sounds like the screen saver is kicking in, perhaps when it shouldn't be. How long are you "away" before the screen saver with those ads appears?
What DVR/Receiver model numbers do you have?

Try resetting your HR44 using the red button near the access card.
The screen saver should only kick in when the DVR is paused for several minutes.

I thought perhaps the reset had resolved this, but this morning I was watching TV (one other tv was on in active mode at the time in another room). With no action from me, these two ads suddenly appeared on the screen of the TV I was watching. Multiple ads were displayed and could only be interrupted by my changing the channel. Photos of 2 of the ads are attached.
This is extremely annoying--enough to make me consider a different provider. If this is a "feature", I don't want it and I can't imagine any customer wanting this kind of interruption.
Another major annoyance with directtv is the display of "771 satellite signal loss" when there is no loss of video or audio and NO WAY TO SUPPRESS the message, obstructing the view of the program (see last photo).
We are long-term customers, but issues like this have us re-thinking our loyalty to direct tv.

@longtrmuser ,
You're seeing those screen saver ads because of your "771 signal loss" problem. Most likely your dish is not aimed properly.
Please post back with your signal readings for each satellite's transponders (and both tuners if applicable). You'll find these readings under "Menu" -> "Setup" -> "System Setup" -> Satellite -> "View Signal Strength". Note the "+" and "-" symbols next to the "Satellite" and "Tuner" entries where you can toggle the readings between the various satellites and both DVR tuners.
Fill in your readings for each satellite and tuner using these examples. A properly aligned dish will show 80-90s on most of the relevant transponders (although some will be low or zero):
Satellite transponders (32 total at 101º)

How can there be a signal loss when the picture and audio are clear on the same channel in another room and that channel is not displaying the ads?
Photo 3 shows that there is no loss of video while the 771 message is displayed

The signal loss can be on a channel that you're not viewing. It just means that your reception is marginal. Post back the signal readings and that will give us some clues.

If there is a signal loss on an HD channel (which there is on occasion), we simply switch to the non-HD channel. Why non-affected channels should be saddled with the message and annoying ads is illogical.
It is pointless to report satellite readings because the dish is on the roof and will not get ANY signal if positioned elsewhere (this was determined at initial install many years ago).
Direct TV no longer services dishes on roofs, so I guess our only option is to find a non-satellite provider.

Hey, it's up to you if you want to solve the root cause of your screen saver (ads) issue. Because the dish is not properly receiving all of the required satellites, you'll continue to see the screen saver and the "771 error" messages. And it's not hard to tweak the dish alignment yourself. I can point you to some good YouTube videos.

we have direct tv and this happens periodically. annoying. I am paying to watch channels, not be missing the program by these interrupted freeze frame ads. You miss your show when they do this. its really disgusting they could care less about their customers. $180.00 a month is insane to put up with such cruddy service and appreciation.
