Negotiations
Has the increased pricing for Tegna and all of the other providers diminished Directv’s profit Margins at all or lowered the executives pay? I highly doubt it. Obviously, pay tv is going through a paradigm shift. When popular stations raise their prices, shouldn’t DirecTv at least bear these increases for a period of time instead of squeezing their customers with diminished services?

Our customers are always top of mind while negotiating with content companies. Throughout the year, we are focused on keeping programming costs low and periodically have to update pricing in accordance with the rising costs of delivering content. DIRECTV appreciates your understanding. Duvan, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Maybe greedy station owners shouldn't keep asking TV providers for more and more money. They're killing the industry. More and more folks are cutting the cord and returning to good old-fashioned TV antennas which is still free. Although I'm sure they'll find a way to start charging for that too. Witness the new digital encryption they're pushing for the NextGen (ATSC 3.0) digital TV standard.

DirecTV does bear the cost in a sense. Negotiations do not affect the price adjustment until after they have completed. The price only adjusts annually, so we have about a year before the next one. The adjustment that just happened would have been for prior negotiations.
In any case DirecTV and Tegna reached a new agreement about a couple weeks ago. So they shouldn't be "diminished" any more.
I hope you are voicing your complaint with Tegna as well. After all they are the ones who were increasing rates to begin with, just like they did about 3 years ago. Got to love Tegna for diminishing their service since they are the ones who pulled the feed away.
