network channels

I believe that I will be losing my NBC, ABC and CBS shortly according to DirecTV.  We have a CBS affiliate 30 miles from our house.  So purchased a high end RCA TV Antenna in order to get this channel but I was unable to receive the signal well enough to get the channel.  So I called RCA and they asked for my address to search and find out if I could get a signal or not.  They replied to me that I would be unable to get the signal from this station in my location with an antenna.  So I contacted DirecTV and they directed me to go to a website, tvpromise.com, and register.  I did but I was unable to locate where I needed to register.  All I saw was a zip code search, which I did, and it came up with the message, "Currently there are no channel disputes affecting your area."  So I have no idea what to do now.  Is there ANY way I can get the networks?  I really would like to get or maintain my networks.

Someone please help me!

why are you losing the network channels?

There was a message on my DirecTV stating that some type of federal legislature was not renewed and the result would be losing our networks.  We have already lost ABC and CBS.

What are the channel numbers, this sounds like a distant network situation. What's your zip code?

That has already happen on July 31,  the FCC failed to renew the act that gave the DNS channels to all providers.  DNS channels are the ones that the networks used to send their programs to their local affiliates.

DTV is working to get contracts with locals to get their programs.

My zip code is 48740.  I guess you are asking what the channels are on DirecTV?  I am unable to check at this moment, but I believe that the channel numbers are between 394 to 398?

@syokom33 yeah those are distant network channels. DirecTV doesn't carry your local dma so your only option would be an antenna unfortunately.

Thanks everyone.  It's a real bummer.  RCA tells me that I would not be able to pick up the signal of the DNA Channel nearest to us because of our location.  We cannot even get high speed internet even though we live along a major Michigan highway (M72).  Spectrum is the only option for cable internet and because we built our house fairly far off M72, they would have to charge us $14,000.00 to bring it back to us.  Two strikes against rural living.

Thanks again and Happy Thanksgiving to all and please be safe.

The loss of the STELAR Act is unfortunate. Those DNS channels were a definite boon to the more rural customers. I know DirecTV was working on other agreements because of it, but don't know if they are finished or it is still ongoing. Would be nice if the Designated Market Area (DMA) lines were expanded so that those who relied on DNS could get regular locals that are somewhere in their region.

Keep an eye on www.directv.com/locals in case there is a change within the next year or so for your zip code. Traditional over-the-air (OTA) antenna TV would normally be the backup, but sounds like you don't get good signal where you are at. If that was with a regular antenna on the TV, you might look into higher end and/or outside antenna to give you a signal boost or longer reach.

Yeah $14,0000 just to bring the option of internet is an expense most of us would not have in budget. I want to stay more rural for better atmosphere, less noise, avoiding HOAs (many that are scum of the earth), and to have some sense of privacy. But some decent internet does keep me tethered on how far out I may go. Providing quality internet to rural communities is a need that current tech and logistics cannot quite meet yet.

go to tvfool. com  Input your exact address. It produces a table of all the stations. What does the CBS line say? signal strength (NM dB), distance, path type. Post back with that info
