You are most likely recording the On Demand version as recording from the sat channels still allows FF.

Some channels disable the FF/REW feature for their On Demand content. Since this comes from their online library, they treat this just as if you were on their website where they also disable the option to FF through commercials. Unfortunately more and more networks are choosing to do this and DirecTV cannot stop them as it is not content that comes through the satellite itself.
If you cannot FF/REW something from the satellite channel, then that is a technical issue. If it is On Demand, which includes the "restart from beginning option" as downloads it from online, then it is by requirement of the network.
Personally I want the FCC or such to step in and close the loophole on this. The networks should not have an option to disable a paid feature on my service simply because the content originates from online instead of the satellite. It is still on my DirecTV equipment in the end so I find this an unethical practice by the networks even if it is within the rules.
