You’ve just discovered a bug with the newer app. If you still have the older ‘DIRECTV on the Go’ one then you can use that. Otherwise, you are out of luck and must wait for the next bug fix.
Boy that's being really charitable to the point of absurd. We're not talking about Pop's TV Service here. It's effing AT&T and DTV and they can't be bothered to fix such a significant bug for weeks now?
Though AT&T still owns (70%) DirecTV, they appear to now be taking a hands-off approach. The new co-owner is handling the management of the service. I would expect a lot of transition headaches are happening behind the scene. So a lot more going on then you would expect from your "Pop's" TV service.
Just because it is not fixed yet, doesn't mean they can't be bothered. Some fixes take time as they figure it out. Though I wouldn't be surprised if other tasks for a satellite service might take more priority and resources, still doesn't mean they aren't working on it at all like you claim.
I would have liked them to keep the apps separate. It is my suspicion that combining the app for both DirecTV and DIRECTV STREAM purposes is where a lot of the trouble comes from once it went live.

New app, new bugs. Can happen to any company.
Though I do wish they left the old app up a little longer to give a safety net for situations like this.
