You're not giving us enough information to help you. We need much more information about your current equipment, home network, and how everything is (was) connected.

hd dvr hr24-200
cinema connection kit dcaw1r0-01 [wireless] one slot in back for ethernet
internet is at&t dsl [6mbps] through 2wire 2701hg-b wireless router which is secured [need to input a security code for access]
i've pressed the reset button on the cinema, have reset via the directv onscreen instructions etc etc
i've followed instructions menu, parent/ /network, setup network etc
but the instructions say that within 60 seconds [of what, i don't recall] the tv screen will present the opportunity to name the wireless device but that never happens
always get 'can't connect to the internet...

2wire is plugged in and gets good strong signal throughout house [ipods and ipads]
computer works fine via wireless - speed tests usually get over 5mbps

It will be necessary for you to reset your system and begin anew as follows:
Directv Model DCAW1R0-01 WIRELESS WHOLE HOME
Disconnect the CCK from the DVR but leave the AC connected. Use a ball point pen to reset the CCK in the small hole on the back. Check that the router has DHCP enabled (essential) and has no MAC or firewall enabled. Assure that the network name and password contains no symbols other than numbers and letters. Disconnect AC from the router for two minutes then re connect. Reconnect the coax to the DVR only (not the CCK) and do a red button (inside card door) reset of the DVR. When it's all booted up do thus: Menu -> .....setup -> system setup -> network setup -> restore defaults -> Your system is now clear of any previous settings. Connect the coax from the CCK to the DVR and select your network and enter the password. You may get an invite to connect, is so, accept. You should get a "connected to Internet" message. Allow 24 hours for the system to download then try downloading a concert from channel 1239 as a test.

First, thanks to you [and others who do this forum]. I thought this was directv employees; i'm guessing you enjoy it. i'm technically challenged but, even so, i connected to the 2wire and viewed lots of data; there is a firewall and has always been [even when the directv pro installed the cinema] and dhcp is enabled, so, here goes:
no change - still says it cannot connect result code 86-685

it did not - - BUT -i accessed my 2wire and browsed around - i noticed the tv said MAC address; it wasn't on the list so i manually added it and magically [everything about this is magic to me] directv hr24 name appeared so right now i'm doing this all over; didn't work

It seems to me if you truly performed the hard reset of the CCK, then it should have cleared out any stored information and thus when you re-setup everything it should have asked you for the network name and password again. Since it did not, then you need to focus on resetting up the wireless connection between the CCK and your router. You must get to the point of selecting your network and entering the password and following through with that successfully.

what you say makes perfect sense. I did use a paper-clip on the reset button and hold it for a long time. I will try again. thanks

Good to hear. Ethernet cables fail so rarely that we often forget to suggest that.
