Sales Call

I just received a call from someone saying they work for Direct TV and said they can get $30 off my bill because current customers are complaining how they are over charged compared to new customers. Is this a scam?

Very much a scam. Companies do not call to offer discounts. And most of these scams require you to pay up front with a gift card (an untraceable method) for their "offer").

Only call DirecTV's official number to discuss options on the account. Though discounts are very rare these days. They have had to pull back to address a concern of some existing customers operating at a loss by too much in promotions.

Everyone gets an intro offer of some sort. It is a one-time deal. It must be attractive enough to garner new business. They cannot afford to give millions of existing customers that discount again, so is only for the smaller number of new account. Personally I wish it was spread out over the 2 years, instead of front-loaded into the 1st year. But they need the deeper price to be an eye-catcher.
