Some things need improving

It is good that you have a package with a lot of Channels and not the
expensive sports channels, but the Select could be better by adding
the Science channel. It has a lot of innovative shows and probably
those who are not interested in sports would be more likely
interested in science

I suggest having a Select II package for another $5 that would have such
channels as Science, UP, WGN, Smithsonian, National Geographic Wild,
Travel. The idea is to have an excellent non sports package.

Stop asking if I want to connect to the internet.

The Guide should show a description of the show not the actors in it.
It should show the date it was first showed without having to press
additional buttons. Larger letters would help when preessing Info. We
should be able to change to a channel not in our Favorites list
and then after, it would continue in our Favorites list.

We should be able to press EXIT any time and have it get back to
the program we were watching regardless what we are doing not have to
hit OK, etc.

The Auto Tune feature should be included even if we have DVR.

You need to have a feature like Centurylink, press 999 where you can get
back to the last DVR show you were watching after it is no longer the
previous channel.

I have noticed DirectTV has had a lot of people discontinuing service
but is planning on cutting back on discounts. This will make things
worse. The only thing that will get prices down, which is essential
now, is to allow us to pick which channels we want. A lesser alternative
would be to allow us to eliminate whichever of the most expensive
channels we don't what. Now, there is a much bigger price to pay for
continuing to stall on not allowing people to pick the channels they want.
Work on legislation or make deals with suppliers that allowing us to pick
what we want.

Smithsonian is a special channel, not in any package, but in the Movies Extra Pack (or at least once CBS returns the feed). This pack is from the early days of HD to showcase the new service. Since Hallmark Movies and Mysteries from the pack was added to a few packages (Select, Entertainment, Preferred Xtra, and Premier), it is hoped that perhaps a new agreement with CBS would allow a similar change to the Smithsonian channel.

Nat Geo Wild being a secondary channel, think FXM and FXX to FX or what was H2 to History, is in Xtra and above. Those kind of channels are not being put into lower packages compared to the regular one.

Autotune in DVR is requested on occasion. To date there has been absolute nothing indicating this would change. The DVR feature replaces Autotune, so it is one or the other. You can have a mix of HDDVRs and HD non-DVRs on the account.

Sports is one of DirecTV's biggest selling points. That is why most packages have sport channels. The two lowest packages Family and Select have been the ones not to have any sports at all.

However there is a new package. Preferred Xtra. This is a couple dollars less then Xtra, and since it removes the Regional Sport Networks (RSN) there is no RSN fee, which makes overall cost similar to Choice. This is for those that want a large variety but watch little to no sports (does have ESPN and ESPN2). This package was needed a long time ago, so better late than never. It was launched at the same time the RSN fee was itemized (instead of bundled into the package cost) and the charge was based on address instead of a flat rate across everyone.

Though not a perfect solution, if you are on Select I would compare against the Family package to see which would be a better fit. It adds in some channels that Select does not have. It is for a niche set of customers but worth taking a look at: http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/compare/printablePackageChannels.jsp?packageId=960004
