That tvpromise.com thing is utterly useless!!

All the tvpromise.com page did is put all the blame on NBC and FOX for not paying enough money to multi-billion-dollar at&t.  This is completely directv's fault.  In fact, it's at&t's fault, since they have brought service to an all-time low at directv.  Before at&t bought out directv, I hardly ever had problems.  Now they have the AUDACITY to put the blame on NBC for depriving me of my shows for 2 weeks -- so far?  FOX has been off for well over a year!!!  I only watched football on that channel, but do they offer me a free channel to watch my Seahawks instead? NO, of course not.  So well over 1/2 of the shows I watch/record are on the channels (mostly NBC) that at&t is being too greedy to fix!  I've talked at length with my local NBC station and they're almost as upset as I am... and I've called the national NBC offices and they're as blown away the directv would do this, too.  Dish network will be here to switch me to their service in about 29 hours.  But I won't get back what directv already stole from me -- and lied about over and over, promising me it would be back on any second -- for weeks.  Like I said, directv customer service is a shambles now.  Good riddance.

Local affiliates do NOT pay AT&T/DirecTV. TV providers pay the channels to carry them. So any rate hike mentioned is regarding the TV provider paying the channel owner, not the other way around. So the website gives the overview regarding what is going on, provided you read it correctly.

Negotiations start before agreement ends. But if a new one is not reached by the time the recent one is up then the channel owner can pull the feed as is their right. Only once an agreement is reached will the local affiliate owner return the feed.

DirecTV stole nothing from you. Like all TV providers (Dish included), they have a clause in their Terms of Service that channels can change at any time. Since they don't own the channels they can not guarantee they will always be there or force the channel to stay. However any agents claiming channel will be back any second are in the wrong. Unless an agreement has been reached those agents cannot quote when the channel will be back as they are not at the negotiating table.

Good luck with Dish Network. Good thing they never have these sorts of contract dispute disruptions 🙂

I hope we don’t end up having to cancel our Direct Tv account. We have had good service so far. I just hope At&T can realize that they charge too much. Our combined total for family cell phone service for 4 people, along with our Direct Tv bill runs around 540$ per month. That’s a lot of money. I want my local channels! If you want to remove channels, I could give you a list! I don’t believe that the Playboy channels or any pornographic channels should be available. I don’t care for a lot of the shows having to do with the Supernatural or grisly (Edited per community guidelines). I know that money making is the #1 goal for AT&T...NOT CUSTOMER SERVICE!

The local channels are charging more for their programs so DTV has to pass that cost onto the customers bill.

DTV doesn't remove channels the channel owners removes the feed because DTV will not cave in to the price they want to renew the contract.

DTV has no control over what a channel does with its programming and the content providers package their channels just like DTV does so can't do anything to change them.

So block the adult channels and since most are at an additional cost you can't watch anything.

Your belief is they charge too much. In reality the networks charge the TV providers a lot so in turn that sets the cost we pay. Cost has increased over time like many other things. Is gas too much because it is no longer $0.99 a gallon?

AT&T and DirecTV (not Direct TV) do not want to remove those channels, just like other providers. They cannot prevent the channel owner from pulling the feed if they choose to do so. Channel owner naturally wants a better deal, but that means higher cost for DirecTV and customer. So they are negotiating the next carriage agreement. Unfortunately the channel owner is threatening pulling the feed, which is a normal tactic to use us customers as leverage (which is the channel's right as much as we don't like it).

You don't believe that Playboy and other such channels should be available. Well it is not up to you what is available for others. You don't pay for those "Adult" channels. You can go into parental controls and hide them, go into ratings limits to adjust accordingly, and even block others on a by channel basis if you desire that censorship in your home. Other people will watch what they want without you telling them no. To be clear I am not stating I am for or against such channels, only pointing out you cannot dictate what others may watch.

It is up to the individual channels what content they show. We have the freedom to watch what we choose and ignore what we don't want to watch. With your aversion to shows that may fall in the genre of supernatural, grisly, and I suspect anything close to "Mature" that there may only be a few channels you would like in the first place. Perhaps regular antenna TV would be a better fit if you find variety inappropriate for your household.

$540 between DirecTV and 4 cell phones? That seems high. I would review both services to see exactly what you are paying for and where you might cut cost. Review the channels you do watch and see if a package or 2 lower might be a better fit. And if by chance you are on Premier, then a lower package with just the premium packs you watch is usually the better way to go.
