TV in study room (one of four in home) not working. Snowy screen.

TV in this room not working (others in house are). One not working shows just a snowy screen. Faintly in background is this information: Channel 99

Stereo

SAP

Mono (highlighted in green)

With the remote I cannot get the screen to change or work by pushing any button.

Help?

What are all of the receiver models and which one in the study room has this issue? If the remote isn’t working, either it isn’t paired properly with the receiver, the batteries are dead, or it is in IR mode while the receiver is in IR mode or vice versa.

Try swapping receivers from the study hall to another room with a receiver that doesn’t have issues. Do you still get a snowy picture when another receiver is put in the study hall? IF SO, it ISN’T a receiver issue but rather an HDMI issue, TV issue, or cabling issue. Although rare, it may also be a SWM splitter issue depending on what satellite setup you have.

Put your tv on the correct input for DirecTV, your tv is on channel 99 so it's more than likely on the "antenna" input

Suspect nabukl is correct. You need to use your TV remote to set the TV to the correct input for Directv (it's probably HDMI1)

Snowy screen means your TV is on antenna input. So on the TV's channel 99 and not DirecTV.

Change TV's input back to the HDMI port DirecTV is plugged into. Use either the DirecTV remote, TV remote, or button on TV set to do this. It will be labled INPUT or SOURCE.

Thanks for your helpful comments and suggestions. Appreciate them. In the end, I got online with Directv and went through a number of tests. The conclusion: I need a new receiver :) Thanks again.

That doesn’t sound right. Most agents just say that to get you off the line. Try our suggestions first before going though the hassle of a replacement receiver you likely don’t need.

I concur with @detuch254 that the agent claimed a receiver replacement was needed because they wanted to move on.

A snowy screen is almost always simply being on the wrong input. Change the TV input, verifying you end up on the correct one.

You can even try connecting another box (or any other HDMI device to that input). By getting the same result, you verify the box was not the problem.
