Usage

My parents have directv with the dish and I was curious if I could use my parents account in my new apartment a block down the road?

Service by satellite is for a single residence. It is delivered through the receiving dish.

You would need your own account and receiving dish at your place to have DirecTV.

You can watch DTV with the app but you will not be able to watch any recorded programs on the DVR unless you can connect to your parents internet.

@Camtheman395 all of us wish this was possible. If it was, I would be splitting my DIRECTV bill with my entire family and ship them standalone HD and HD-DVR receivers as well as satellite dishes to put up. However, this kind of thing is known as mirroring and ‘stacking’ accounts because each DIRECTV account is ONLY good for one location. Once the service is used outside the location without DIRECTV consent, you are going against your contract and risking your account and yourself. Although, since DIRECTV is satellite-based and satellite is only one-way, they would never know you were doing it.

The right way to do this would be for you to login with your parent’s DIRECTV credentials on the DIRECTV app for phone or tablet or you can access it online via a PC and wire an HDMI cable from the PC to the TV to enjoy it on a bigger screen.

as @DIRECTVhelp mentioned, you can take a look at DIRECTV STREAM, which uses your internet connection to deliver LIVE TV.

The DTV app is not suppose to allow streaming to a TV and I don't think the new app does either.
