Using the "Receiver DECA" as a local access point?
I was wondering if anyone know the Receiver DECA's CAT5 port can be connected to an Ethernet access point and serves as a local Ethernet hub? This connection, assumes a SWM5 network with BB DECA installed at the headend.

While you MIGHT be able to use a DECA adapter to provide network/internet access to non-DirecTV devices, it's NOT recommended or supported. You should NOT mix other network traffic with your Whole Home DVR network. It's very likely you'll disrupt the performance of your WHDVR video sharing. Use a separate network connection for you non DirecTV devices.

Thank you for the reply. This configuration is desirable in situation where there is no available CAT5 internet connection at the HD display. Certainly, one can use a wireless bridge but the wired network provides better performance. As far as the bandwidth is concerned, the WHDVR traffic and the internet traffic on the DECA network is what the broadband DECA is designed for.

But only for DirecTV Whole Home DVR networking, and OnDemand downloads via internet to your DVRs. It's not designed to support other devices demanding internet access, at least not without potentially significantly degrading your WHDVR performance. Proceed at your own risk.

Did you evaluated this configuration? If so, please share some of your empirical data? Thanks in advance!

We don't have any data that I know of other than (a) we know the system works perfectly as designed and supported and (b) we see literally thousands of posts from folks with poor performing jury rigs. Why don't you connect this and see for yourself?
Note that many if not most new installs have no DECA adapters involved, thus the jury rig you propose cannot even be used. Pretty well proves that it was not intended to be used thus. If you get someone running a couple of program streams, and downloading a HBO movie from 1501 and the boy jumps on with a high demand online game, you may see the results you are seeking in empirical data.
Personally, I took the time to run Cat5 cables to all three of my DVR locations to provide for Apple TV, BluRay and the other network needs of a full entertainment system.

Ok, I received the wireless Broadband DECA and receiver DECA (adapter) today and connected the receiver DECA to an access point (as oppose to the receiver's ethernet port) then connect the receiver to the access point via CAT5 cable. The test result shows the throughput is same as direction to the router. I also have WHDVR playing (during the test) over the coax and it works just fine. Again, normally, you will not need this configuration. This configuration is only recommended for those instants that you need to have the internet access (say internet radio, Netflix download etc...) at the HDTV location and the CAT5 cable is hard (or impossible) to install or the cost of installing the CAT5 cable is not reasonable or you just want to have the internet access in the hurry... Other alternative is to install a wireless bridge. The bottom line: This setup is not needed for WHDVR and internet at the DirecTV equipment. However, DirecTV engineers designed the DECA network for other possible future applications and I feel good about this unpublished options.
