Trying to start a vacation hold. SOOOO hard to find answers to questions! This should be an easy 1 or 2 step action. I have been on the computer for 10 minutes and still do not have the answer to my question.

Have you checked your account?
Found this:
To temporarily suspend your DIRECTV® service, call us at 800.531. 5000. What to know before you suspend service: You must suspend the account for at least 30 days and no longer than 9 months.

You need to call DIRECTV (Number in my greeting below) to put your account on vacation. You can do so but the minimum is 30 days.

You have to call DirecTV. It is called suspending service. AT&T added the "Vacation Hold" term in relation to the small monthly fee they added in.
Suspend DIRECTV Service
The 9 months is new. Used to be max 6 months. After all if you were off for more than half a year you really weren't a customer. But the last couple years probably influenced them changing that.

Hi there. It is an excellent decision to suspend your account while enjoying your vacation. You can place your DIRECTV service on temporary hold for an extended vacation, military deployment, disaster relief, or personal reasons. You must suspend the account for at least 30 days and no longer than 9 months to avoid unexpected charges. Please call us at 800.531.5000 and ask for a voluntary suspend of your account. Additionally, have a look at the following link to find the terms and conditions: https://www.directv.com/support/satellite/article/KM1237725/ Also, feel free to contact us via Private Message, so we'll be glad to help you with this process.
