WATCH MY DIRECTV IN A MOTEL
How can I use my DirecTV when we are traveling and staying in motels. Do I have to take my box with me?

No, you don’t take the box with you. Download the DIRECTV app on your devices and log in with your DIRECTV satellite credentials. That gives you access to most live RV channels as well as the on-demand library. This won’t grant you access to DVR recordings or ALL channels though.
You may also be able to take a streaming device with you to the hotel to stream your channels from there. This streaming device can be a Fire Stick, Roku, Apple TV, etc. (This will depend on whether or not the hotel TV has an accessible HDMI port to plug stuff into)

Does the TV have a streaming device attached to it? What streaming device specifically and have you downloaded the DIRECTV app yet?

No, you don’t pay extra. DIRECTV STREAM is a completely different service than DIRECTV satellite.
With DIRECTV satellite, streaming via the app is FREE of charge. Just log in with your satellite credentials. If you are having issues signing in with your DIRECTV satellite credentials, we need more info to help. What streaming device are you using? Is the DIRECTV app updated to the latest version? What error code do you receive when putting in your satellite credentials? Have you tried reinstalling the app and restarting your streaming device

I don’t think the Samsung TVs support directv satellite streaming. You’ll need to pick up an inexpensive fire stick, Roku, or Apple TV. That should fix your issue.

Thank you. Now all I have to do is figure out how to sign in on a different TV in my house.

I just found out I have to pay extra for the streaming service. Thanks for the help. I wish these companies would put things in black and white. If they would have put "Must have DirecTV Stream" in their email, I wouldn't have spent the last month trying to get signed into my account on our other TV.

I am trying to watch on our TV in my bedroom. It is a new (1 year or so) Samsung TV. I talked to 1 person that said I would have to call Samsung and I talked to another person that said Samsung are compatible devices. When I try to sign into the app on the TV, it says "That isn't the ID you set up for this service." Code 205.4

I have an Apple TV ap on my TV, but I suppose that won't work. I don't understand how to use the fire stick.

No, unfortunately that won’t work. You need to buy a ‘literal’ Apple TV, Fire Stick, or Roku. These can be purchased from Amazon, eBay, Best Buy, etc.

I take it the fire stick plugs into the TV.

Correct. The Fire Stick has an HDMI output that goes directly into the TV. Whichever HDMI port you choose to plug into for the fire stick (whether it be HDMI1, HDMI2, HDMI3) should be chosen on the physical TV under ‘Source’ or ‘Input’. Once you get the fire stick plugged in properly and ready to go, hover over the fire stick App Store and look for the DIRECTV app. From there, install the DIRECTV app and choose ‘Current Satellite Subscriber’ once in the app. You should be able to enter your satellite credentials and be on your way.

Even if the motel has a 'smart' TV that can download its own apps, don't use it. Many have experienced where their DirecTV stays logged in allowing others to use their subscription until it might deauthorize sometime in the future.
Using the streaming option (secondary perk of DirecTV, not the other provider DIRECTV STREAM), make sure it is thorugh an external device (Roku, Firestick, etc.) so that you take the access with you when you leave the motel.
