Is it possible with Direct TV to watch one program but record another?
As long as your DirecTV box is a DVR (one that records), then yes.
Regular HDDVRs have 2 tuners. You can record one show while recording another, or have 2 shows recording and watch something you already recorded.
Genie (only 1 allowed per account) is a 5 tuner HDDVR.
What are the model number of each box you have now? This will determine what you currently can do and what might be different with any particular upgrade.
