There's no way to view or download recorded DVR shows to a laptop. Only a smartphone or tablet. Once upon a time there was a PC app called Direct2PC, but that's long discontinued. However, you might be able to find those shows on the network's streaming/OnDemand website.

Sorry but you cannot watch recordings from your Genie, or any other HDDVR, on your laptop. There is no such option currently. Years ago, they were trying something similar to what you want, but it was discontinued.

If you have a smart phone or tablet, you can download recordings to that device. It is a temporary option as only good for 30 days. Like the app, this cannot be streamed to a TV as only for watching on the mobile device itself. This feature, known as mobile DVR, is available for the 2nd generation Genie (HR44) and up.

@lovecars1 as stated before, DIRECTV2PC would do the job for you however it was never really taken care of and ended up being discontinued. However, to answer your question, the only thing I could think of is getting a TV in the garage as well as a Wireless Genie mini receiver for both live TV and the HR44’s playlist. If you already have a wireless video bridge (WVB) for other wireless receivers, this is pretty straightforward. Just a call to DIRECTV (their number is below in my greeting) and ask for a wireless Genie mini receiver. Depending on stock, it could be a C41W or C61W. Either way, it should do the job. Be aware though that an extra $7 per month will be added to your bill for the TV service fee of the genie mini.
