Watching Directv away from home

No additional ID is needed. You use the same login/password as you do for the DirecTV website. Verify your login works on the site itself first.

Streaming any content available on the app will only work in-country. Careful if you are near the Northern or Southern border as if you connect to a Canadian or Mexican tower, that is out-of-country even if you have your feet in the United States.

Make sure the app is the official DirecTV app. Watch for misspellings like DirectTV or Direct TV. Cleare cache and reinstalling the app as normal troulbeshooting steps.

DirecTV and DIRECTV STREAM are two different providers. There is a new app that supposed to be used for but is not yet reliable. So hopefully you have the older standalone app.

What "smart" (phone I assume is the missing word) are you using?

What happens when you try to login?

Are you in the United States (specifically connected to an in-country tower)?

If you mean smart tv, there is no Directv satellite app for a smart tv. The Directv app is only for phones or tablets. 

DTV sat service and DTV streaming are two separate services with their own subscriptions so you can't use your DTV sat ID/password for the streaming service.

That is the problem right there. The DirecTV app is not for streaming on a TV. With DirecTV you pay for each authorized TV at a single residence. Your locals, Regional Sports teams, and taxes are based on your physical service address.

Sorry but the DirecTV app is for watching on a mobile device only (smart phone or tablet). It does not allow you to watch on a TV.

DIRECTV STREAM is a separate provider that is streaming-only so is for watching on a TV.

They are trying to combine the two into one app, instead of managing two different ones. But what you are allowed to do is still tied to whether you have the satellite or streaming service.

To watch on TV, you need a receiving dish and at least one receiver. For temporary use you could bring a box with you. Otherwise, an entire separate account would be needed to stay within the rules. You can suspend an account for up to 6 months within a 12-month period if this location you are at part of the year.
