WHAT is with channel 212-1? Why can’t we get it as part of our package?

We receive channel 212, but not 212-1???  It’s preseason football... Christ we pay enough to directv to NOT get this channel.  And on top of it, your new site really BLOWS, took me forever to even log in and can’t find any info on channel 212-1...

  • NFL preseason games are not available on NFL SUNDAY TICKET channels.
  • However, the  broadcast rights to preseason games go to local affiliates and national networks (CBS, Fox, NBC, ESPN,)

I did not know 212-1 even existed. It just says NFL Network Alternate HD, is that even a Sunday Ticket channel? NFL Network does carry all preseason games, many of them live.

That is not a Sunday Ticket channel as season sport subscription channels are in the 700s (only active during their respective seasons of course).

I know that a -1 or -2 channel can be available if a network has multiple games or programs overlapping. Still subject to normal blackout/market rules. So if a local channel has the rights to the game, even if that local has pulled the feed during negotiations, then it cannot be watched on another network.

That’s what I thought. So the marked solution is not really a solution. The only thing showing in the guide is Vikings at Saints this evening while the regular channel is showing Tampa Bay at Pittsburg, both live games. Those complaining they can’t get 212-1 are probably either trying when nothing is on or are in a market that is blacked out.

Agreed. Either outside of viewable timeslot, blacked out based on where they live, or at extreme a technical issue with the authorization.

In any case not DirecTV blacking it out as they don't have that power like some people think. Just like CBS, Nexstar, or any other channel owner, does not dictate the rules for NFL Sunday Ticket blackouts.

"Those complaining they can’t get 212-1 are probably either trying when nothing is on or are in a market that is blacked out."

That is incorrect.  I got the message that it was blacked out, but no local channel was showing it.  This was the Denver Seattle game and I live in South Carolina...

I did did say probably plus you just confirmed that was correct, you are in a market that was blacked out. Now as to why it is was blacked out if no local channel was carrying it, I don’t know.

It is possible that even though not on a specific local channel, but a sub-channel of the NFL Network, it may only be viewable for those that are within the game's market. So Denver and Seattle teams would be out-of-market for South Carolina, explaining why the NFL had it blacked out for you. It is common with professional sports that pre-season games can be locked to only their respective markets.

I just tried 212-1 and it is blacked out for me so here is what I believe is going on. Right now channel 212 has a live game, Tampa Bay at Pittsburg. I suspect that game is blacked out in those two markets, so the game on 212-1 is probably available to them. In other words, you can only get one live NFL Network game. If you can’t get the game on 212, you get the alternate game on 212-1. If anyone in a market where the game on 212 is blacked out can verify, please do.
