Why can't we subscribe to the Smithsonian Channel
We used to have the Smithsonian Channel in our Programming, and were very happy to pay the $4.99 a month to watch wonderful programming. WHY did you remove it from our Channel Lineup? Not everyone has unlimited streaming via their internet provider. This stinks that we can't watch programs that we loved to watch, like Aerial America and programs in the package that we used to have. Why can't you offer both DirectTV and streaming?
Please bring it back and give us the choice to pay for it. Please!

I do hope that someone from DirecTV is monitoring this forum and can respond to our questions. Personally, I liked DirecTV a whole lot more before AT&T took it over.

I still have the Smithsonian channel on DTV satellite channel 570 but according to this the DTV streaming doesn't.
Yes. Smithsonian Channel programing is now part of the Paramount+ family, and we have discontinued our Smithsonian Channel Plus streaming service. But you can still stream Air Disasters, Aerial America, Secrets, and our other hit series on Paramount+, along with live news and sports, and thousands of episodes from CBS, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, BET, MTV and more.
If you're a Paramount+ subscriber, just go to the Smithsonian Channel page at https://www.paramountplus.com/brands/smithsonian-channel/ and start streaming.

Do you have DirecTV (satellite) or DIRECTV STREAM?
For satellite, the channel is part of the Movies Extra Pack. If not working, then more info is needed. If you have DIRECTV STREAM then be aware you've posted in the satellite forum.
If you want official support, you call DirecTV as this forum is intended to be customer to customer.

Directv Streaming still has the Smithsonian Channel it is channel 570 and it is included in the Ultimate package and above and if you want it in a lower package you can get the Movies Extra Pack added on for $5.00 a month.

@Juniper... We have DirecTV satalite. We cannot stream anything. Our internet doesn't have enough oomph to do it. We have been with DirecTV since it's inception, when we lived on our Farm, and there wasn't ANY choices as far as cable or other satalite systems available. DISH wasn't even a gleam in their developers eyes, and when we moved, we opted to keep it instead of going with the cable available at our new house. We used to love DirecTV.. but since AT&T took it over, we're not as enamored with it as we used to be. Them taking away our choices really (Edited per community guidelines) lemons. (We have had AT&T cell phone service since its inception too... and our opinion is that they should have stuck with what they do best.. TELEPHONES. But I digress..We have Whole Home in our new house in town and there are things we like about that. But programming that we can't get over the satalite anymore? stinks..

Available for streaming.. not over the Satalite. What I orginally posted remains the same. Not everyone can 'stream' things. We can't. I don't understand why they can't make it a 'choice' to receive it over the satalite or stream it and let people who can't stream stuff, get it over the Satalite like we used to.
If you have an explanation, My ears are open to hearing it.

The pack is available for Satellite and DIRECTV STREAM. It appears you are pulling up the streaming version in error.
When you look at your bill or list of services on your account, does it show the Movies Extra Pack on your account? (that is the $4.99 charge).
What happens when you go to channel 570?

I have the Movie extra pack on my Satellite service and my account shows I can remove it so it is not streaming only.

What happens when you go to channel 570?
When I go to Channel 570, it gives me a message that I can sign up for the Movies Extra pack using my remote. But when I go to my account, it says it's only available as a streaming package.
I am so confused. I tried upgrading my package from Choice to Ultimate, and there is no way for me to do that online.. so I guess I'll have to call and sit on hold indefintely to get it changed.. LOL! Oh well.. it's late and I really appreciate your help, but I'm going to call it a night for now. I still liked DirecTV a whole lot more before it was bought out by AT&T. <sigh>

Right now it's telling me I can't even add that as I have an order pending and that has to complete before I can order anything online. The order was for two remotes, which were delivered two weeks ago. Something is really messed up. Guess I'll have to call them to get it straightened out. I really hate sitting on hold with them. This should be able to be taken care of online. <sigh> Oh well.. as I told Juniper.. it's late.. I'll have to deal with it tomorrow.

Going to 570 it acts as if you don't have it. But when you log into your account it only shows it available as streaming, which is certainly wrong. I suspect that is an issue with all the migration of the new co-owner taking over control and separating it from AT&T's website.
I would try refreshing your service authorizations, which normally you go to www.directv.com/refresh to do. I would try a red button reset as well of your receiver (if you have a Genie setup make sure to do that on the main Genie).
Do NOT change your package for this. The Movies Extra Pack is an optional add-on for all packages. Changing the package does nothing for it.
If the refresh and red button reset do not fix it, then certainly call DirecTV. Verify the Movies Extra Pack is on the account. If not, then just have them add it back. They can refresh services on their end, or even do a "restart" of services as well which can hard push through missing authorizations.
I'll be glad when the website is back to normal. The migration is making a bit of a mess of it, but I think not as bad as when AT&T first acquired DirecTV. But if the service is off the account, I wonder how that happened. Good luck.

I awakened in the middle of the night and tuned into Channel 570 again, and got the message that in order to watch it I could use my remote to sign up for the Movies Extra. So I did, and viola` all the channels I was paying for and lost (probably as you mentioned, in the transition) are now back and I'll be charged $4.99 again.
To everyone who offered assistance on this matter, I really appreciate all of you.
We really do like the Aerial America programs, so we're very grateful to all of you for your help. You're the best!!
(I'll figure out what's wrong with that order that they still show as pending, later.. maybe they'll fix it when they get everything semi back to normal operations)
