Why does DirecTV go to commercials after I pause a recording after about 15 second
When I pause a show after about 15 seconds the programming goes to AT&T or DirecTV commercials requiring me to press the play button several times to get back to where I was.... Why?? Can I opt out of this very annoying situation...

DTV started this a year or so ago, the only way to stop it is to disconnect the internet from the DTV receiver and lose On Demand, start from the beginning and paying for PPV with the remote.

Thanks for your reply and information. As a DirecTV subscriber since 1996, I have seen some significant "changes" in the company and product delivery. I'm not too sure that the customer is "top of mind" these days.. We should have an "opt out" for this or have the commercials start in a minute instead of 15 seconds to allow for quick runs..

@Charlie9949 ever seen AT&T acquired DIRECTV and has since spun it off, the company has had some very rough turnouts. Like you, I hope that many of these annoying scenarios will be fixed in the future with a new co-owner stepping up to the plate. Personally, one of the most concerning issues is the HS17 receiver and it’s many limitations.
Only time will tell what the future of a satellite company will be.

I was reluctant to mention AT&T but they did their customers no good with their purchase of DirecTV. I did not know of the subsequent spin off. It would not take too much to get back to the top in customer satisfaction, just listen to us.. Appreciate your remarks..

Not really a spinoff AT&T sold off 30%.

I do understand this issue with screen burn but going from the TV to the kitchen for a bottle of water is about 20 seconds, in that time the TV goes into commercial mode, it only takes seconds. There should be an option to opt out of the commercials. We are paying for programming not DirecTV promo's. Just one opinion..

We encountered an issue with playback of recorded programs and live programs. The pause lasted for 40 seconds (sometimes 30 seconds) and then went to screensaver commercials.
Needed longer pause, especially for reading graphs or maps or details on images, etc.
So, this is what I learned from Directv staff:
Although our device goes to screensaver within 40 seconds (and couldn't fix that), this did help:
--after the screensaver appears,
---pressing the [-] key located under the [7] key
----results in a 5-minute pause (with the pause keeping/freezing the program's original frame for 5 minutes).
Note that you need to allow the screen saver to appear and then press the [-] key.
Hope this helps.

The old screen saver was black with a white DTV logo bouncing around.

RuhRoh,
I like that and will give it a try tonight. A 5minute pause would be wonderful..more than enough time to hit the kitchen or head..thanks.

Because they have gotten greedy and make money selling ad spots to companies, This way they can make tons of money. Only way to get rid of the commercials is to cancel service, then they will probably hit you with a bunch of lame charges and threaten you with turning your bill over to a collection agency to stain your credit report. Its a win win for them. Hope this helps

This is a 4 yr old post and you are incorrect, you can disconnect the internet from the receiver and it will go back to the old black screen DTV/AT&T logo bouncing around.
