Why Is DirecTV Forcing me to shift to 4K?

Set my DVR to record the American League Championship Series. Find that games are being recorded in 4K and I'm immediately being shifted to a page trying to convince me to upgrade to 4K. I've now missed the game that I wanted to see.

Really poor practice that will cause me to look at alternatives to DirecTV

DirecTV is not forcing you to shift your service to 4K.

However, recording via the search option tends to grab from all channels instead of defaulting to only channels you receive. For that you need to go to the channel in the guide and press the Record button.

I agree this needs an improvement in the interface, so that it can be set only to record from channels you are subscribed to or in your favorites list. Something along those lines would be a nice quality-of-life change for the service.

I always understand that I can record the game manually. What's the point of the record series function if it's going to default to a service that I don't have?

It appears that search defaults to the lowest channel that carries the program that you want to record in this case the 4K channels 104 105 106 so you have to tell it you want 219 pressing record in the guide twice may record all the games but if it is that important I would set them to record separately.

I'd agree. Normally wouldn't care, but I have to believe that a lot of
folks run into this when they choose to "Record Series." Disappointing when
you're looking forward to watching a playoff game.

Your proposed solution is a good one. Something DirecTV should consider.
