Why the random chaos with ads in recorded programs.
Sometimes I get no ads.
Sometimes I get the original ads with the option to fast fwd through the commercials.
Sometimes I get the original ads with no option to fast fwd through the commercials.
Sometimes I get "PSAs", or an approximation of such. (AARP's thing about an old guy who lives alone and can't operate socks is just a (Edited per community guidelines) to get people to join AARP IMHO.)
Sometimes I get the same PSA FIVE TIMES with no option to fast fwd through the commercials. I know where to find the shells for that guy's shotgun now.
This mess is very annoying.
AND yesterday I saw on demand items that had a AT&T "watermark" very in your face, half the width of the screen. Seriously?

The only time you should be blocked from FF/REW during commercials if the content (recorded or not) is from On Demand. More channels are doing this with their online content as per their agreements with advertisers you are not allowed to avoid commercials. I am very much against this and wish the loophole (since it comes from their internet libraries, not through DirecTV's satellite) were closed.
Now if you are having this problem with anything live or recorded from the regular satellite channels, that is a technical issue and would need to troubleshoot to resolve.
Check the channel number on the program. For example, SyFy (satellite) is 244 but SyFy (On Demand) is 1244. So if it is a channel in the 1000s then that is On Demand.

networks decide what can or cannot be fast forwarded. generally if its a recording off the satellite you can fast forward, if its recorded from on demand you cant fast forward through commercials. as for the water mark ive had it happen before, i just change the channel and go back and its gone
