Will switching to ASUS router for wifi affect DirectTV?
We just got ATT fiber. We're set up with a BGW320 modem and DirectTV. Wireless turned on.
I'd like to turn off ATT's wifi and set up my ASUS router & nodes as WiFi access. Will that affect DirectTV?
Can DirectTV be plugged into the modem directly to access internet? Can DirectTV access my wireless network on the ASUS router?
Thanks

I think the OP might be asking something different, but I might be wrong.
The BGW320 is a combined modem and router. You can set the BGW320 to "passthru" and then plugin your own router (the ASUS)to an ethernet port on the BGW320, which now acts as just a modem.. You need to set up the ASUS with your wifi network name and password. Then the router controls your internet. You can then connect the directv receiver to the ASUS by ethernet or wifi just like any other router.
Google "BGW320 passthru" to get info on how to set up passthru

Hi, @NinjaDucky. Yes, you can directly access the internet using an ASUS router by plugging its modem into DIRECTV receivers, given that it's an HD DVR Genie HR44, HR54, or HS17 model. Most likely you will need to rerun network setup on your DTV receiver, reset network defaults then add the new WiFi network.

@TexasBrit Thank you, Yes that's what I was getting at; just needed a confirmed answer/thought :). I have about five different posts/how tos regarding the IP Passthrough part - not too hard to figure out.

Ahh I was afraid of that lol. We had a bit of trouble having it connect to the default WiFI when first starting out everything. Off to read up on DTV receiver and networks :)
Thank you!

If the network SSID and password are set up on your router to be the same as they were on the router you are now "passing through," you should not need to make any changes

Thought I would ask - why do you want to do this? Normally the only reason is to improve wifi coverage because the gateway wifi is pretty poor.

Yes, that is the reason why I'm doing this- because the gateway wifi is poor- notably upstairs - where I'll have at least one node connected to the ASUS router.
As for the network SSID on ASUS router, unfortunately I had to reset the Router as forgot my password for the router/cpanel.

Final update- Got everything set up- including switching the DirectTV to the new ASUS wifi network (though I dislike the remote- ridiculously tiny text and buttons....). Interestingly I did not have to reset network defaults for the DIrectTV- it seemed to connect easily to the ASUS 5G with little problem; after doing the passthrough stuff and changing settings on both ATT and ASUS routers.
So far so good. Thank you everyone for your assistance (along with other resources including a youtube video that helped me to visualize better.

Since the SSID and password on the ASUS were the same as on the ATT gateway Directv should have connected without any problems, and of course that is what did happen!!
