Your cables are not HD!
Is there a way to turn off the message "Your cables are not HD"? I have two tv's attached to my receiver (one is an HDTV the other is a standard tv connected via a composite cable) creating a closed circuit feed of Directv programming and I have no interest in installing additional receivers.
I understand the reason for having the message, but I would prefer to be able to disable that message from appearing.

I don't understand how anyone can consider these "workarounds" that require us spending more money to fix something that DTV has screwed up with the "new guide" acceptable.

The vast majority of DirecTV customers don't have to deal with this because they're not feeding multiple TVs from one Receiver. If you don't find the "workarounds" acceptable, then feel free to explore alternatives. And be sure to email your feedback directly to DirecTV to ensure they see it.

From my searches on the internet it seems like a huge number of DirecTV customers are having this issue. I'm having the issue on both my receivers. Simply because I have a DVD recorder connected to one and a second TV connected to the other I must sacrifice by not being able to view HD channels?!?
This is simply not acceptable. I want the old guide back. You have heard the saying 'If it isn't broken don't fix it' right?

The workaround is NOT ACCEPTABLE! Why should I have to disconnect devices or switch settings around to watch what I pay for?
And 'your old guide is gone' is not a very customer friendly response. Do you work for DirecTV?
Is this your version of 'customer service'? DirecTV just makes changes and says screw the customer if you don't like it?
Come on people, get this fixed!

suit yourself, but the workaround posted is the only way to get around this short of getting another receiver. and DirecTV cannot fix it because is not "broken" and yes the old GUI is gone.
and no, I don't work for DirecTV. this is a user to user community, and I am just a customer trying to help other folks.

I spoke to DirecTV and there is no way to turn of the message. I have the exact same setup in my home and have RF remotes to change the central DVR from channel to channel. This message only appears on the TV attached to the analog output, and if your HD set is still on, it will function normally. This program change is stupid and irrelevant. DirecTV has done one of 2 things.
1. Made a programming error in their DVR software that can be fixed by a quick “delete the message” fix.
2. Made a conscious decision to irritate their customer base into putting a receiver on every TV in the house.
The technical support answer is that the HD guide will not function on the analog output without putting the receiver into 480p mode. Fine, downgrade me back to the old software. The new guide is no better than the old one other than it’s a little faster.
Work around:
1. Use the press and hold Exit key to change to 480p – use normally. When you are watching the HD TV, press and hold the Exit key to change back to 1080p. The message on your other TV will go away after 30 seconds or so.
2. If the guide is not important when you are watching the “other” TV, just put up with the 30 second delay on the message.
I want to believe that DirecTV made a programming mistake. I have been in the software business for 40 years and know that it’s impossible to understand all of the possible uses of your software. I encourage DirecTV programmers to get rid of this message ASAP and work out another software solution for the technical reason that they put the message there in the first place.
I encourage everyone out there that has the same problem to ask DirecTV to change their software to delete the message. If they are able to output messages to seperate outputs on their receiver, then they have the technical ability to temperarily put the DVR into 480p while the guide is up on multiple outputs, then put it back to 1080p when you exit the guide.

Well said wrtallent.
And it's not just a matter of turning the message off. I want to be able to view my show in HD as well. Not reduced quality.

If we can't get rid of the message, why not just shorten it?
Here is an email I sent to DirecTV cust svc - we'll see what happens:
Please, please shorten the time that the subject message appears on the screen. Us HD and SD users already understand how to switch the DirecTV menu's definition. The message, as it is right now, blocks 80% of the screen, takes way too long to disappear, and is very annoying.

That would be nice.
Note that there are now at least 2 threads of unhappy customers. It is obvious that DirecTV did this change on purpose. They had the workaround response posted on their website before they downloaded the new software. OBTW, I used the MONOPRICE.COM solution and it worked OK, but that device doesn't work with my PC / PVR that I am replacing DirecTV with, so I sent it back to them. I continue to switch the resolution on my main TV to 1080 when I am in there, and watch the analog channel in other rooms in SD 16:9. It's a good picture, but much better off of the ATSC Antenna.
If DirecTV reads all this stuff, I certainly suggest that they at least limit the time and the size of the error message to cause less irritation. There is actually no good technical reason for their actions. They are attempting to force everyone into a 1-receiver per TV installation. They put the guide up before and it was fine on all devices. The new guide at SD resolution is no different in format or content than the new guide in HD. They have the ability to fix the problem, I just don’t think they have the will to do it.

Agreed WR,
...a smaller menu tucked into one of the corners of the screen that displays for only a second or two would be a heck of a lot better than the current, albeit, very annoying menu.
R U listening DirecTV? Would you like your users to write the code?

Please......come on people. Thousands have viewed and read this. That makes me think that this poster, and my self, are NOT the only two people in the world who are having problems. The problem can be solved. It is a software problem. If they can write a code that has the receiver sense the output device and change to the lowest res, they can have the code detect when the HDMI output is again in use and switch the receiver back!
But...they won't unless there is a need. Certainly there are many people who don't like this new "feature."
Write in and tell them. Post here. Respond to other posts.
Because if you don't, pretty soon we will have Directv service like our government service: broken and unresponsive. And we will all suffer.
Please....get involved here. And also write DTV....you have to dig, but you can send them an email. Maybe someone will even read the thing.

I have talked to DirecTV,
I have written them via their Contact US page,
I have posted on their FB page,
I have vented here.
And now we wait. Will they do something about the problem or not? They have it in their own power to fix the problem with software. They just need enough pressure to act. You know, the squeaky wheal get the oil.
