Annoying glitching on 2 local channels in Binghamton, NY area

Channel 20 and 34 in the Binghamton, NY area are getting impossible to watch as they keep glitching. The sound goes out for a few seconds and sometimes the screen goes black for a few seconds.  Please help. If this cannot be resolved, I will have to look into other services that do not have this issue.

Most likely an issue with their signal feed to DirecTV. Best to contact the station to be sure they're aware of the issue.

Interesting that now it is constantly a little choppy, but does not seem to be cutting out completely anymore.  I will have to watch it longer later to confirm that it no longer cuts out.  Thanks, I will contact them.

Channel 20 and 34 are from the same studio and are actually subchannels on the same frequency so you can be pretty sure this is a problem at the stations transmitter.

Definitely sounds like a feed issue between them and DirecTV. Though sounds like not as bad, as long as the issue is continuing I would reach out to the station of those channels to report the problem.

As a backup, you could try a regular antenna to get the free channels in range. Might even pick up additional channels DirecTV doesn't have.

I have tried the antenna and it did not work well.     One of the stations broadcasts out of Elmira and that did not come in.    My neighbor has one and he says that 2 of the 3 local stations come in good sometime, but not other times.   The 3rd does not come in at all.  I did call the studio in Binghamton and the first person that answered the phone said she had not heard other complaints, but she transferred me to Engineering and they confirmed that they are aware of the issue and are looking into ways to resolve it.

You can't just use any antenna and expect it to work. You need to choose the right antenna for your location and the direction of the stations you want to receive. But anyway, if the stations fix their signal you won't need to do that.

Thank you.  I used a good quality antenna, but it just did not work for me.  I was not willing to buy a try a bunch of different ones to find one that might work.   I live in a mountainous rural region in upstate NY, so I think my location and proximity to the stations is an issue.  My next-door neighbor has tried a few antennae and he still only gets 2 of the 3 local stations and he has to keep moving the antenna to optimize the signal.  So, that is not for me.

There are antennas meant for UHF and others for VHF.
try antennaweb.org to get an estimate of the channels you should be able to pick up at your address

It sounds like your neighbor is using an indoor antenna. Not a good idea. Unless you have good signal strength, they are a waste of money. But yes if you are in a mountainous region reception can be very difficult.

Completely understand the antenna issue. I used to live out there (30 min from Binghamton). Was just a shot to see if it could suffice as a backup, sorry it didn't.

Hope all goes well with the station(s) working on the feed to DirecTV, and that it is not too low a priority for them.

detuch254:  Thank you.  I went to the website and NBC is not listed which is the main one we watch.

Fox and CBS would require a Medium directional antenna and PBS and ABC would require a large directional antenna with a pre amp.   So I am going to put my faith in the local studio that they will resolve the issue. (fingers crossed)  I am also going to try the NBC app on the Ipad and SmartTV to see if they hopefuly don't have the same issue.   I just watched a recording of Celebrity Jeopardy and it did not glitch once.
