blackout games

Can anyone tell me why the Oakland A's are blacked out in Boise, ID while they are playing in Philadelphia...?

If the game/team is out of market you cannot watch it on the Regional Sport Network (RSN), but must watch it on the out-of-market subscription instead. And that subscription only covers in-season games of course.

The A's are not a blackout team in Idaho, the Mariners are.  I have (had) MLB Extra Innings and the game (which was playing in Phillie) should have played but was blacked out...

The A's you watch on MLB Extra Innings since they are out-of-market for Idaho.

The Mariners are in-market for Idaho so normally would watch on the RSN Root Sports Northwest. Unless a local affiliate gets rights to a specific game of course.

Also there is the matter of weekend games as MLB has additional blackout rules that the other major sports do not., including new ones for this season.

Fox has certain rights for afternoon MLB games on Saturdays, ESPN has the same rights for night games on Sundays, and starting for the 2022 season, Apple has the same rights on Friday nights for two games each Friday to stream on its Apple TV+ platform.
