commercials during a dvr recording

It has came to light to me that now I have to watch commercials during my dvr recordings.  Why do i have to watch commercials for a service I pay for, not like facebook.  I pay for the dvr and service, why would i watch commercials on a recording?

Most likely the DVR recorded from On Demand, only sat channels recordings can be FF thru the commercials.

No, not true.  TV mini series aka gold rush, brockmire, deadliest catch, to name a few.  I have spoke to direct tv and tech support says " it is about making sure I get all the information.  I call bull, I pay for a service not to be censored.

The networks decide if on demand can fix through commercials or not. Providers have no control over it.

@shannon02 Just FYI, there is some on demand that can be fast forwarded.

@referman As noted, it is the content provider that blocks the ability to fast forward on demand, not Directv. In any event, any “recording” you run into that won’t let you fast forward is not a satellite recording, it is downloaded on demand. The tech that told you it was about getting you all the information was just wrong and clueless.

Recordings from On Demand are increasingly blocked from FF/REW per the requirements of the networks. This is from their online library instead of through DirecTV's satellite channels, so allows them to circumvent the DirecTV DVR service. This also affects the Restart from Beginning option as downloads it via On Demand.

However, if recordings from the satellite channels cannot FF/REW then that is a technical issue. The agent saying it is so you "get all the information" had no clue what he was talking about.

Check the channel number the recording shows. If it is in the 1000s then that is On Demand. But if it is a 3 digit then that is your sat channels; i.e. SyFy 244, SyFy On Demand 1244.

If sat channel:

What model are you boxes?

Each have the issue or just certain ones?

Any troubleshooting tried? (be specific).

Other problems?

I have all 4 seasons of Yellowstone on my DVR.  I just watched the first 3 over the past few weeks.  I started on season 4 which I recorded recently during the airing of it.  Now it says 'wait for download' and then I am not allowed to ff during commercials.  This is the first time this has happened for any series I record.  Is it Paramount that has required this?  It's making me cranky.  I'm also a Direct TV customer.

The channels can't change recordings made from a sat channel into an On Demand recording you must have recorded it from On Demand.

@tessphili it sounds like season 4 was "recorded" from on demand instead of the linear (satellite) channel itself

@DIRECTVhelp , Daniel the troubleshooting link you provided above doesn't pertain to the op's issue

The "waiting for download" indicates On Demand (online), not the live satellite channel.

Unfortunately, more channels are disabling FF/REW via their On Demand libraries, just like they do if you go to their individual websites. As the feed is not delivered through the satellite channel but directly from them, they have more control. I am completely against this, but the loophole rules in their favor.

well, once again.  No..... I watched the episodes live and recorded them as I watched them.  I did not think Yellowstone was even 'on demand'.  It's acting like an 'on demand' from a dvr recording of the episode (as it aired originally).  This happened to the first two episodes of season 4.  Yesterday I decided to watch the rest of episode 2 since I could not finish watching it.  I figured it would start from the beginning but it did not, it started where I ended earlier.  Then I started episode 3 and it plays like a normal DVR episode.  Go figure.
