Cost of watching TV channels

For us that don't watch very much TV, why do we have to pay so much?

I watch about 10 different channels, but I pay as much as those watching all the sports channels,  Spanish speaking channels, etc.

I'm on a fixed income.  I've bundled phone with Internet with Centurylink. who charges me

about $100.  I use both a lot.  But AT&T charges me $100 to watch 10 to 15 channels and

not all day, but evening mostly.  WHY?  You have a basic package  that doesn't include some of the channels I like.  Why can't we choose the channels that we like and pay on that basis? I do like your music channels;  however, I only listen to a few of them:  Easy listening, smooth jazz, classical, and big band.  Another way you might divide up groups of channels is by age.  Old people like me like reruns such as channels 2 and 3 and Hallmark, and big band music.  Why don't you call in some of your customers and have a brain storming session and find out what they like to watch and come up with some unique plans  BE CREATIVE, AND AT THE SAME TIME HELP OUT YOUR CUSTOMERS VIEWING HABITS AND POCKET BOOKS.

@onemissellie   First off.....this is a PUBLIC message board and you have just posted your PERSONAL information for hundreds, if not thousands to see!  Please remove your PERSONAL information by clicking the 3 vertical dots in your post.

No TV provider allows you to pick and choose your channels.  It's all packaged.  Depending on the channels you watch, you might look into YouTube TV.  This is a streaming service and you would have to have a Smart TV or a Roku/Firestick.

I have a friend on a fixed income and was paying way too much for Dish.  She recently changed to YouTube TV and loves it.

The content providers package their channels and will not allow anyone to pick what channels they want.

I have been trying to get all but basic tv removed from my account since the lockdown started, but just get in loop with virtual system or just get tired of waiting. I haven’t been to the home where this service is but 3 days in the last year because of COVID and still after 30 minutes today am in the same place...keep paying or risk not having any service when I do get back to this home.  I can’t find any way to send email or schedule a call with representatives to make change.  A lot of money for a retiree with nothing to show for it.

That is because the only way to lower you channel package is to call 18005315000.  DTV will almost never call you.

You cannot remove individual channels. Everything is packaged. If by "basic" TV you mean just the local channels, well there is no such option. You want locals only, then you use a regular antenna without a pay TV provider. All packages include locals. The lowest available is Family ($29.99 before receiver services, TV fees, etc.) so is the closest you could get.

Otherwise if you meant something else by "basic", look through the channel lineups to see what package best matches what you want.

The only way to lower your package, or anything else that reduces revenue, is to call customer support. You don't "schedule a call" as there is no such appointment system for talking with customer support. You call and it is first come, first service just like everybody else.
