Directv in my rv?

Can I use one of my direct tv boxes from one of my tvs at home when I travel in my rv?

Sure. What model is it? And, do you have a portable DIRECTV SWM dish with tripod or non-penetrating mount? You may also need a power inserter depending on the receiver model. Model HR54 and H44 do power the dish but other receivers require a power inserter.

You will lose all local channels when you get outside of your locals spot beam.

Yes, as long as you don't have an obsolete setup.

What are the models of each DirecTV box you have?

In the RV, you will need to have a slimline SWM dish on a tripod/sled mount or the Winegard Trav'ler. If you have any prior models, those are MEPG-2/SD-only which must be replaced. DirecTV is shutting down the old feeds and sticking with MPEG-4 going forward.

As mentioned when you travel outside your home area's spot beam, you will not receive local channels. For those you would need to use a regular over-the-air (OTA) antenna to pickup whatever is in range where you travel.
