DIRECTV Protection Plan for which I pay $8.99 each month is a RIP OFF!!!

Hurricane Laura came through Louisiana April 20, 2020.  During which our DirectTV dish must have been moved or altered.  Now April 21, 2021 I am STILL trying to get a service technician to come to our house and diagnose the issues that have prevailed now for a YEAR!

The DIRECTV Protection Plan for which I pay $8.99 each month is a RIP OFF!!!

I get NO protection and in order to have a technician come to my house I am told I will be billed an ADDITIONAL $49.

Protection plan covers service calls for repair ($99), delivery of replacement boxes ($19.95), and new remotes ($15). Dish relocate as well as alignment are different services.

Since you pay $8.99 a month ($107.88 a year) whether you use it or not, and remotes are cheaper through other retailers (possibly because of bulk deal), the one-time costs as needed are cheaper in the long run. I see it as being more of a value for those that find it easier to budget a small known cost in the monthly bill then having reserve funds for an unexpected one-time cost.

I spent nearly 2 hours this morning calling the 800-531-5000 number.  Out of 5 calls I was hung up - excuse me - disconnected 3 times.  One of the 5 calls the person was clueless of what I was asking (why it takes so many calls to have my dish re-aligned after the hurricane knocked it out of adjustment.

FINALLY, I reached a young lady that spoke English and understood what I was asking.  However, it will be Friday before someone can come out to our house.
