A message, "urgent info ch 90" appeared on my TV screen in lower right corner. How can I get rid of it?

The Genie is the Whole Home DVR. The tech should provide the cables needed to connect both to the TVs.

You can have Whole Home DVR without the Genie, which is optional for those earlier setups. The Genie is DirecTV's Advanced Whole Home HDDVR so it is built specifically for it. Just like a DVR must have DVR service, the Genie must have Whole Home DVR as well.

You can have the R22 and Genie on whichever TV you prefer. However, if only one TV is HD, I would suggest having the R22 on the older one. That is because SD programming takes up less space. Otherwise if both TVs are HD, since the Genie has 5 tuners and a 1TB hard drive, I would put it on the one that gets used the most.

One thing to keep in mind is like your R22, the Genie does not have Autotune. The DVR capability replaces it. Mentinoing in case you use that feature on your non-DVR.

Box connects by HDMI to current TV. If TV is older (not HD), then the A/V (red/white/yellow) cables are used instead. Newest models have a 10-pin connector on their end with the traditional A/V on the TV end of the cable.

Wow!  Can't believe how quickly you both replied. Amazing!

I hate to ask, but what is "Autotune"?  Does it have to do with the tv settings?  My hubs "dials" in all the settings for color, etc.  Does the Genie have 5 locations that you have access to record to even if only have the one plus the R22, (which I assume will still have all the same capabilities in the other room as now), even with the new Genie set up?  Will we be able to see the recordings from the Genie in the bedroom and the R22 in the living room, or they won't share info.?  Stupid questions?  I'm sorry if so.  Thank you in advance.

Auto tune is only available on the HXX receivers and what it did was change the channels depending on how you programed it and when connected to a TiVo or a VHS recorder you could record them. In the early days DTV didn't record.

Hi everyone,

Hope you're all well.  Well, the day is finally here to replace the old box and dish...by 3/12/24.  Long process for DirecTV to get all these people, like me, changed over.  We've hung on to and as I understand will hopefully get to continue to hang on to and keep our R22 DVR, we'll ask for a COMPLIMENTARY MPEG swap, and also an H25 standalone HD receiver to replace the SD one, that's not a DVR.  We're speculating they'll need to switch out or adapt the dish for the HD "knobby things" on the dish to be able to receive the HD signal.  Is there anything I'm missing?  Any specific phone number to reach the tech so to better prepare him so he'll have what he needs when he gets here?  All your help and information is much appreciated.  Have a great day!  Thank you!

If it is a round dish then they will replace it with a SWM slimline dish.

Hi,

I appreciate all the valuable info. one last thing, (hopefully), If they want to change the MPEG does that affect the recorded programs on the DVR box we're keeping?  Thanks for any info.

Please excuse my exceptional ignorance.

So long as it is connected to the sat coax then everything will still be there.

Me again... now they're wanting to charge me for the basic H25 receiver...$99 or $199, ridiculous!!  Why can't they just do what they said they would do when I called to get the appointment? George, the tech, said his work order was a standard replacement of both boxes with Genies and fix/replace the dish. Why are they pushing the Genies so hard?
