Is there no Cowboy Channel available? Even with the Xtra package, it's not available.
Is there no way to add the Cowboy Channel? I have the Xtra package and it is still not included. How would I go about obtaining this channel. How much of a pain would it be?

Thanks @Juniper for all the useful information provided.
In fact, the Cowboy channel at 603 is included in ULTIMATE and PREMIER packages. Since you have the XTRA package, we just need to go one step above and the channel will be working.
You can upgrade your package to ULTIMATE/PREMIER from your online account.
Please try and let us know how it goes.

I think it might be one of the channels directv announced was moving to an HD satellite. If so if you only have an SD dish/receiver you won't be ableto receive it.

I would assume that channel like MeTV and H&I is not a nationwide network channel but on a locally broadcasted sub channel that DTV doesn't carry, the only time DTV would broadcast them is when a local channel uses the programming on their main channel.

The Cowboy Channel (603) is in Ultimate or Premier.

I believe the Xtra package has been grandfather so to get it now you have to change to the Ultimate or Premier package.

The channel lineup I posted has all the traditional regular packages of Family, Select, Entertainment, Choice, Xtra (even the special Preferred Xtra), Ultimate and Premier. Only shows Cowboy Channel in Ultimate and Premier. So regardless of if Xtra is grandfathered or not, you will not get the Cowboy channel unless you raise the package.
Though you can change your package at any time, historically you only have 30 days to return back to a grandfathered package. Since AT&T acquired DirecTV and just recently partnered with a new co-owner, I don't know if that safety net is still there. Just something to be cautious of before deciding on any changes.

Juniper-
IF you have a certain channel (a fave) on a certain package and then change that package for ANY reason that channel will no longer be "grandfathered" in that package. You would have to "upgrade" to the higher $ channel, or more, to get it. I know this as it happened to me. My hubby watches the hunting channels. After speaking with a DTV rep, they were mad at me and changed my programming package, added the biggest sports package and signed me up for something (insurance?). I had NO idea until I got an email from DTV, thanking me for the upgrades. I immediately researched for the President of DTV office and email. I sent them a message and was replied to the next morning. Even they could not add the channel back to the package. They did give me a deal but I had to upgrade.

Changing from and back to a grandfathered package does not change the channels within that old package. However, package being grandfathered does not guarantee exact channels remain in it. Sometimes when carriage agreements renew, a requirement is that a particular channel be removed from a grandfathered package as doesn't meet the current agreement.
What exact channel are you talking about? You say you were changed off a grandfathered package. But when you complained you say they couldn't add the channel back, which wasn't the request but to revert back to a grandfathered package that had it in the first place. If they couldn't change you back to the grandfathered package itself, even within the old 30-day buffer, that is unfortunate of the new system.
Channels themselves are not grandfathered, but the packages.

Juniper-
I am not trying to argue with you. I just know I was told I could not go back to the previous package AND receive the now missing channel (I think it was Pursuit or another hunting channel) which had been grandfathered into the lineup for us. As long as there were no changes he (my hubby) was able to watch the channel but once a change was made it was lost and no longer grandfathered in the lineup. He had been watching the channel all day. After my call, he lost the channel when he flipped back to it. He was NOT a happy camper that night. We had not changed any programming in 15 years. This was the cause of our first programming upgrades.
All of this had taken place with in 24 hrs. And even since I did NOT make the changes it did not matter. They were made.
I hope I have been able to help someone else with the info I provided, which I believe is the truth. IF I am incorrect I apologize.

Being told you couldn't go back to the grandfathered package makes more sense. That would be why you couldn't get the channel without going to a current package that includes it. That is an unfortunate consequence of the new system.
To be sure you were given the correct options, what channel was it and what package are you now on? What was the package you had before? Want to see if there may be a better solution than you were given.
It is not often a channel requires a higher package, though there have been a few times where a national free preview was opened up giving customers channels, they don't normally have (intended for about a week) but when the preview was over the channels remained in error until something refreshed the account (such as a package change) fixing the issue.

You don’t really have to worry about that anymore .. Not until next season. Because the Cowboys won’t be on TV for a while ..

The Cowboy channel is not about the sports team, but the cowboy genre (think rodeo, westerns, etc.). It is unknown if the later poster was looking for that channel or something else.
