Need work done on satellite
My tv is coming up with a 775 code. Technician came out Thursday am but told me he is not allowed to step off his ladder onto the roof. How is my problem going to be resolved if this is the case ? Have not been able to watch my Direct TV in over a week.

DTV has to install a dish where it can be serviced.

Correct osha regulations forbid techs to leave their ladder.

The issue is that OSHA regulations updated some time ago. DirecTV stays in compliance by no longer letting techs leave ladder and go onto roof.
So the solution would be paying DirecTV to install a new dish in a location they are allowed to service, be it from the ladder or other place from the ground (pole mount, railing, etc.). Alternatively you could have the existing dish relocated, but it would be up to you to do the work yourself or arrange through a 3rd party.

I spoke to the technician about relocating or putting up a new dish and he said it couldn't be done - too much trouble to re-route the wires. I do pay for the insurance or protection plan which was a waste of $$$.

Tech on site was only there for repair, not the additional work. You would need to call DirecTV for a new dish install appointment instead.
The Equipment Protection Plan does not cover a new dish install. It is to cover service calls for repair ($99), delivery of replacement boxes ($19.95), and remotes ($15). As service calls and replacement boxes should not be very common, and remotes are cheaper through mass retailers (Amazon, Wal-Mart, etc.), I agree the EPP is not worth it for many. Only those who need a small known cost in every bill, instead of dealing with one-time costs as needed, would get value out of it.

Thanks for the response...guess it's time to check out Spectrum since it doesn't involve a dish. I have at least 10 huge pine trees and limbs could fall on dish again.

I would first check to see if there is an alternate location to put a dish that would give you clear line of site while avoiding the concern of falling limbs. There are some dish pointer apps out there to help (sorry I can't think of a specific one to suggest). That way you have an option to continue using the service you already have.
But if a new location for a dish isn't going to work, then certainly check other providers in the area. In the end you want the service that is going to work for you.
